Description A small "submarine-kind-of-thingy", that I made based on a Feng Zhu concept.

Created with maya and photoshop, 1 day modeling, 2-3 days of texturing.

It has color, bump and specular/reflection maps.

Looks like some kind of Dieselpunk boiler to me with those doors

Oh cool....I think I modeled this years ago in Rhino3D, before I learned 3ds max. I had looked for it again after, but was unable to find it. Nice work! Now it just needs a scene to go in!

i've been thinking about making some kind of scene to it, but i've never got around to do it....one day...

Nice! Looking sweet, good texture work, although i think it would be cool, considering that it's submerged to maybe have some more visible rust and maybe some algae growth coming through the nucks and crannies of it? Also it'd be even sweeterer if you could get more of a specular reflection going on as if it's just emerged from water?

Great work so far!

How do you spherical map something in Maya without pinching the texture at the poles? I was recently helping somebody map a (hemi)spherical object, but wasn't familiar with the spherical mapping tool so I cheated it and combined a cylindrical and planar map.

I never did a spherical map on this one, the big sphere has just a planar map taken from each side, then some small tweaking with center uv:s. The rest is more planar and cylindrical ones, I rarely use spherical mapping due to the reason that you described.

Ah. Well, in any case, the mapping came out perfect.

thank yeah, been thinking of making an environment for it...but I have never dona proper underwater (it is a underwater sond) area before and I haven't got time to experiment as much as I would like to, in order to make it look as good as it should.....but maybe I will do that in the future

jotun In reply to AJKidd [2007-03-23 21:03:43 +0000 UTC]

don't know the exact number of houres...it was textured in 2-3 days, a few houres a day maybe....i experimentet with different teqniques to get the effect i wanted....and some time went into just finding out which colors that would work
