The MCX Spear is a battle rifle produced by SIG Sauer . One of several variants of the MCX rifle family, which use the short-stroke gas piston developed for the earlier MPX , the Spear is chambered for the 6.8x51mm SIG cartridge. In 2021 the weapon was entered into the United States Army 's Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program.
The MCX Spear appears in Battlefield 2042 as the M5A3. In the game's continuity, the weapon was adopted by the United States military in 2034, becoming its standard service rifle.
