Description
"If there's even one person I can save, I'll keep fighting. That's what a healer does."
So, I recently got into FFXIV, and I'm having a great time, it's addicting as all heck, I've fallen in love with the worldbuilding, the characters, the music, it's all so good. I never thought I'd get into a proper MMORPG, but FFXIV is a great place for me to start with the ridiculous amount of content free players get. I decided to make an AU version of Kyros for my Warrior of Light, and of course I wanted to draw art of him.
Kyros was born in Ala Mhigo and spurred by his interest in the arcane, he joined an underground arcanist's guild. They strove to continue their studies for the good of people as a whole, outside of the despotic hands of Empire rule. He learned under his mentor, a Professor who took the time to teach him the ins and outs of arcanima, working with the eccentricities of his method of study. Unfortunately, disaster struck when their expedition, upon finding the massive discovery of Allag Soulstones, the power of the ancient Summoners, was betrayed by one of their own. Their food was poisoned, and the evidence of the murder buried under a mountain of ash. Kyros was the only survivor, the only keepsake he could save a ruined tricorn hat that was once prized by his Professor. In search of vengeance, he found the traitor responsible, who had sold out their guild and discovery to the Empire, reveling in stolen glory. With the exactness of arcanima, he gave him exactly what was owed: a slow and painful death by poison from his own hand.
He was caught for his act of murder, and had his tome confiscated by the Garlean authorities. With the help of scattered allies, he escaped with his life, fleeing to Limsa Lominsa to escape all that had happened. He didn't regret preventing the knowledge from reaching Garlean hands, but he regretted that it did nothing to soothe the grief. Over the course of the story he came to walk the path of the Scholar, to bring healing and comfort rather than death. In doing so, he met Lily, his fairy companion, a constant friend to ground him in the daunting road ahead. She can be a bit jealous sometimes, but she cares a lot for her partner, watching his back and keeping watch for if the burden becomes too much to bear.
Personality wise, this version of Kyros has a lot of similarities to the original. He still has an insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge, delving into ancient knowledge from the Nymians and Allag alike. He's still a socially awkward neurodivergent nerd, and he still wants to use his knowledge to help people and make the world better than he left it. However, FFXIV!Kyros has seen more shit between the burden of the Warrior of Light and how he handled loss significantly more violently. He doesn't like acknowledging it, but self-blame about things going wrong and grief comes up every so often.
