When I first saw these things in the movie I thought Oh look it's the crab-like monsters from Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast! lol Fantastic version of the little buggers!

not really, being that the JJ Abrams said that there had to be something else to be scared of, and if you could just hide underground, there wouldn't be much to be scared of from just a huge monster. And he drew his comparison himself from Jurassic Park with the raptors alond side of TRex.
