Description Another work done! This one was done fairly quickly, because it was made on toned canson paper, meaning I had to construct less layers than usual since I already had the midtones. Hope you enjoy!
Size: 40 x 60 cm.
Medium: Pencil on canson paper.

great work. there's a lot of emotion within this piece, is there any particular story behind the inspiration for it?

Thank you! I would not directly put a story behind it, but this work was made during times of mourning and sorrow, but also during a time of love. So my interpretation of this image is the of consolidation and mourning, double emotions. Hence the title "Amitto", latin for 'to lose by death'.Β

Well done! Looks like charcoal and white chalk, is it really graphite pencils?

Thanks! It really is, with a few touches of white pencil on the highlights. I wouldn't lie about my materials, especially since I also use charcoal on other works, so I appreciate each medium equally.

Right, of course, my graphite pencils never go that black... really impressive!

Thank you! It helps that I am working on toned paper, which makes the whole drawing a bit darker overall. Also I use Faber Castell graphite pencils, perhaps they go a little bit darker than others. I know derwent goes less dark for example.

Btw, my own computer screen makes pictures lighter than they are, so I think you're seeing a darker picture than I am, something to keep in mind as well

I've just read your detailed comment from a while ago about your technique and now it makes more sense to me, as ten layers that range from 2B to 8B should provide a dark tone, especially on a tinted paper. I happen to have faber-castell pencils, as well as Mi-Teintes papers. Can't wait to try out your technique!Β

Yep, that's it! Good luck and let me know when you have a work done in that technique!

Thanks, I've worked on the attached drawing today, using your technique.Β
I don't have 3B and 5B, so it's only 8 layers of 2B, 4B, 6B and 8B on A5 sketchpad paper (the Mi-Teintes will have to waitΒ Β )

That's starting to look decent already! I can already see some points to improve that would have you make huge leaps forward. If you are open to it I can give you more detailed advice, but I'd rather do that via email or anything that's personal, since I don't want all the ins and outs of my technique lying on the street for everyone to read. I am willing to give you some more, hopefully valuable, insight if you like, because I can see there is some good potential in your work!
