Description 339 NEW HOPE...FOR A 14 YEAR-OLD UNEXPOSED RARE POLAROID 339 AUTOFILM

New Bizarre Abstract Image And Experiment

Camera: Modified Polaroid Happy Card/polaroid closeup lens.
Exposure: Adjusted film speed/ISO125/metered.
Film: Polaroid 339 Colour Autofilm/Intergal 3x4 image size/expired 1998.
Location: Carson City,NV.
Shotdate: 11/13/2011.
Scanned: Colour/on auto/lightily cropped.
Note: Experimental revitilized film chemistry/14 year old expired film/image is a copy of a flat colour print.

The Particulars

I recently acquired some very old Polaroid 339 Colour 3x4 Intergal Film and it did indeed pique my interest...so...off I go to try and get an image out of...perhaps...nothing.

1) The chemical pods were almost dryed up...I estimate maybe 40-60%...which is evident on the image strip above the image.
The pod has three sections...the middle section gave the strongest indicator of a transfer. It does suggest that in this case the reagent in the pods dry-out from the outside edges first.

2) The film speed had dropped to about 2-3 fstops [after tests] below the rated speed of fresh film of ISO 640.

The Image

The strip above the image was a center section-cut of the fourth exposure of the flat colour print [which yield no image] [rated at ISO125]...before revitalizing the the dye transfer chemicals [a somewhat messy affair].

This was just a quick simple test for proof of concept...nothing fancy...that can come later...if successful.

After revititizing...and running thru the rollers...surprise...surprise...a image appeared after giving it 15 minutes of dark processing.

So far the dominate colours are yellow, green, flesh...also yellow is the very first dye top layer on the negative. There's also other cross-dye colour interactions on the image.

Very interesting!!

If the chemicals are re-formulated...maybe there can be a greater colour fidelity.
After some more tests...I'll try some real world images [weather permiting].

All this did save the film from going into the dustbin and landfill.

Please enjoy!!
