tell me about it. I started making my set around mid-August, and by then there were already 3 other artists with a decent amount of cards.
Don't let that stop you though! There's always lots of ideas none of us have done. After all, the real artwork is in the card's design and not the drawing itself.

The best thing to do is come up with a new ability or two. I, unfortunately, did not do that, so my cards were somewhat limited. However you should make at least the Mane 6 or something, see how you like it. It's amazing how many variations exist of the Mane 6, and rightly so.

I'm actually doing the opposite first. Trying to find the most obscure clips from the show that only a fan would recognize and make abilities for them, my biggest issue is the fonts. The cards don't look right with the default CS5 fonts I have. I know there is 3-4 different fonts that WOTC use on the cards and there hard to find it seems.

Do you have Magic Set Editor II? There's a program that has it form exact replicas of the cards' styles. You can easily alter the coloring and types and everything with just a click.

Albeit Photoshop would be great for making your own type of card game, but with MSEII it's really simple to make the MtG cards.

Maybe lower the damage to 3 or 2 (MAYBE is the keyword) since you practically have 2 Shock (or 1 Lightning Bolt +1 damage) creature only damage for a 5 CMC 5/3 creature with haste.
Like the idea of it.

you're right, haste and 4 damage might have been too much. Changed it to 3.
