While the human colony of "Reach" was destroyed along with its inhabitants, a naval cruiser managed to escape the planet with the last survivors on board, the Last Battle Ship named "UNSC Pillar of Autumn" would have a secret mission in unknown space, under the leadership of the brave captain "Jacob Keyes" the Autumn would have a chance to end the Human-Covenant War.
Persecuted and sentenced to death by the entire Covenant fleet named "Private Justice" under the command of the Sangheili commander "Thel 'Vadam" who received the prophetic order to board or destroy the "Pillar of Autumn" before the humans reached their objective.
Making a desperate decision, Captain "Jacob Keyes" orders the evacuation of the cruiser and the thick cover of the "Autumn" to be used to distract the Covenant attacks as he attempts to land on the strange alien structure. As an additional measure all squadrons were launched in escape pods to divide the chase, as a further reinforcement “Warthog” vehicles and scorpion tanks were deployed with the help of Pelican freighters.

The leadership of this new almost suicidal mission with few reinforcements at hand was assigned to the sergeant major "Jhonn-117" the only available Spartan better known to all as "master chief". On September 19, 2552, humans land in Alpha Halo (installation 04), kicking off the first human-covenant conflict within the largest relic discovered by alien hegemony.
