I just tend to use lots of semi-transparent layers with paint mixed with water.  Adding a very washed down pink to an area of the face, for example, can really bring out a bit of warmth.  When you use a heavy mix of water it just kind of tints things. I guess it's just practice and experience that teaches me how much water to use.  And acrylics is so opaque that you can always go over something with less water and fix it.  It's all just an underpainting until you get what you want, and I do use lots of layers.

Kirk is my guy, but I do love Picard and totally feel they went in the right direction creating someone different from Kirk rather than someone who was a copy.
