This is difficult to critique, a lot because of the source picture. While the picture is a great image, it's difficult to draw from at the same time. Trying to take a face in heavy makeup and make it look interesting is something I've yet to figure out how to do. Plus her left cheek is rather washed out in the picture as well.
You did a good job of it, though. It seems mostly accomplished by your usual attention to detail on the jewelry, particularly on the tiara and choker... seriously wow. You did a good job of reproducing the image, just there's not much detail in the face to note because of the heavy makeup. Hence why it's difficult to really say much.
I think it works, though, because the face actually stands out in comparison to the rest of the image. Your usual attention to detail on her hair, fabric and jewelry makes the face pop by contrast of it just being smooth and uninteresting. Somehow this brings my eye back towards the face, just by accentuating the detail on everything around it.
Basically the liberties you took with it all seemed to have positively affected it, by taking an image I would have never attempted to draw and made it interesting in this format.

It was very difficult to draw from. The picture itself was nice but it was hard to draw due to the fact that her face looked so perfectly smooth and washed out. I attempted to do it in color...it didnt work out. I switched to black and white believing that it would add a certain something to it. Im glad you think the portrait was interesting.
When I drew the jewelry and choker, I paid extra attention to the detail because I felt that it would add something special to the whole portrait. The choker gave me headaches, I had to plan out how to shade it because the paper I used was hard to work with. The paper scratched and some of it would crumble slightly when I pressed on it too hard with my shading stumps and tortillions.
