You do very nice landscapes. I took the liberty of including a few in my new group, LandscapePainting.

Thanks so much I am really happy you like it!

For painting any kind of evergreen type tree or bush the thing to remember is that you don't want it to look perfect! Obviously it is bigger on the bottom and smaller on the top but in real life there are always branches that poke out unevenly. As far as techique goes, on this particular piece I used a small sponge of some sort, probably a regular kitchen sponge that i cut into small pieces with a pointy tip. Make sure your paint isn't too watery for this! DFon't paint the trunk of the tree where the the branches and the evergreen is until after so it looks like you have a full tree in front of the trunk of the tree. I hope some of this makes some sense to you I am not very good at explaining things in writing. You are welcome to save this to your computer and work from it to recreate whatever you wish. let me know if you do. If you have any more questions I will be happy to help. I never really draw trees with too much detail just make a really sketchy drawing.

Thanks so much! I'll bear that in mind. I'm improving lots at other kinds of trees, but hadn't a clue how to do evergreens

keep the good work coming!

this piece reminds me exactly the atmosphere now in my place.
its still hot here, and everything is green. the flowers are still bloming. but the weather start to get colder , better to say fresh. and last night was raining for 2-3 minutes just like the sky here in this painting.
its a beautiful piece!!!

The stormy skies contrasted with the flowery meadow (the lighting’s beautiful) and the trees – this is lovely…

wonder atmosphere...I didnt see it as a watercolor at first, and that makes it pleasantly unique. ( not that I dont like watercolor...just enjoy your technique here!)

I really wasnt sure...sorry...it sort of reminded me of acrylics or oils...then also some aspects a bit like a drawing medium like pastels. You are beautifully talented...thank for making and sharing your work.

No problem at all, no need to be sorry. There are many times when I am not sure of the medium. Thats why I wish everyone would say so in the artists comments

It went pertty good. I only sold 2 small prints and one large but I made a ton of contacts. people who are redoing there houses and are looking for something for the walls, business owners looking for somthing to hang in the offices to interior designers who do work for hotels & rsturaunts. Gave out a bunch of cards and got tons of email addys and mailing addresses. I am happy with the way it went because thats what I really want to do is get into selling or leasing to various business. Anyway, I am stoked.

With watercolors like this one, do you paint it en plein air? I really like the way you paint trees and foliage and grass, for I often have a hard time dealing with them Did you mask out spots for those pink flowers, or you painted them first and filled in the green around? Thank you for your response in advance

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

judylee In reply to milbisous [2005-08-26 05:20:45 +0000 UTC]

No i don't paint in plein aire, actually I really hate painting plein aire(is that ok for an artist to say, or will i be banned from artisthood forever) I usually go out and find things I like, I ALWAYS visit the places I will paint so I can connect with them, I also like to take my own photos to use for reference and then of course i use artistic license as to how I would like to interperet things. On this particular painting I did mask the flower areas( i love mask) even though it seems like a pain or maybe breaking some rules? It helps me to be so much freer with backgrounds ect. I tend to mask more than paint around things, although I have used that technique also. Are you in classes? I am self taught so I probably break a lot of "rules" but it also gives me more freedom to paint how I want, it also probably hinders me cause I have to learn all on my own by trial and error, bit i like that method I hope i haven't gone on too much or bored you too much Thank you for the comment on trees foilage and grass, those are among my favorite things to paint!
