Description Spent a good amount of time on this. Im not really sure really how to describe it anymore. Had this sort of image vision sitting on the couch Monday night. So I started working with it, trying alot of new things. Really wanted to get more splatter look with it, but I havnt yet found out how to make good looking splatters without using someone elses pre-made brushes. Do you know how? lol. Again, I should be sleeping.

*edit; I changed the name back to what I was originally going to go with "emotions retro back yard" instead of "yesterdays retro backyard" cause I felt like "yesterday" and "retro" were redundant.*

GAH! Totally my favorite. Reminds me (fondly) of my older brothers sheets on his waterbed when I was growing up! LOL!
Wonderful retro look but somehow elegantly updated.
The whimsy and the soft patterned overly.
LOVE!

Hey I was wondering what technology did you use for the background? I mean probably you've used different brushes for the colorization and some texture for the little dots, am I right?

Awhile ago I got away from using others' premade brushes. With wanting to sell prints, I want to create all my own resources, I dont claim to have come very far with that yet. This BG was actually pretty simple. There are a few filter effects Ill let myself use for prints, one of them being the "render>> clouds" feature. If you make a layer of clouds either in black and white, or some other dark/light color combo, and set the layer to overlay, color burn, or other layer blends, it will give a nice effect. The dots, Im not too sure on anymore, it might have been another filter feature, or its possible that I created them all myself by making one dot, duplicating and moving it, then merging the layers and repeating. That way at some point in time you have huuuuuge layers that your duplicating and it goes faster. If you arent looking to sell your stuff, then using premade bushes would be the best way to go since there is a large range out there.

np. and yeah well to make own textures.... there are so many good ones available so why not use them. if you want to make your own I guess you have to brush them yourself and use own photomaterial n stuff..

jugga-lizzle In reply to Senthrax [2007-09-28 18:49:46 +0000 UTC]

I think taking photos of textured surfaces is something Im going to experiment with. I have an alright camera for the job, and I figure why not right. Took a picture of some tree bark yesterday lol.

I know Ill be experimenting more and more with what all I can do with default PS textures too, its hard to believe I didnt get into them before now.

hehe yeah sometimes you overlook the simpelest things which can make the biggest of difference in the endresult.

jugga-lizzle In reply to Senthrax [2007-09-26 18:38:19 +0000 UTC]

I plan to, I just really need to figure out how to make my own textures instead of using pre-made ones. Ive got a couple different filter techniques down, but they arent too hard really.

Any suggestions?

I dont really know. Perhaps there is one, perhaps there isnt. I know Id just rather be called a nerd, cause I really do feel I am one. I guess if anything Id say that nerds are silly, and a bit strange, but still very socially capable. Geeks arent so much? Nothing against anyone who considers themselves a geek either, cause like I said, I dont really know what the difference is, if there even is one.

Is sleeeeeepy.

yay, nerds! (sorry, I'm a proud nerd too, had to chime in with the nerd power) Anyways I like it too. A good combo of and industrial feel with a 70's retro look.

On neopets, my heading on the forums has always been "proud nerd" I may have told you that once before, I cant remember.

Industrial with 70s retro, Im glad you see that, helps me to feel I accomplished something nice with it

jugga-lizzle In reply to DeadLizzy [2007-09-21 15:59:57 +0000 UTC]

Lol, yea. But if someone bought the print, then they could choose to put the sun rays going upside down, and the buildings being right side up.. or at least thats the thought process I went through when making it.
