Great mistake:
the advantage of the samurai was the hand to hand combat, and the mongol was the combat in distance with bow and arrow, during the mongol invasion the katana was capable of cut in the lamellar armor of mongol for example, during the first invasion, even with the advantage of the mongol bombs the samurai was capable of stop their advance until the kamikaze force the fleet to retreat, in the second invasion the samurai was capable to force the mongol in to individual fight due the fortification builded before.
and remember that the samurai have a advantage: the mongols are useless like marines, for example the samurai attacks the mongol ships during the night, killing the tripulation and burning the ships.

I have always wanted to see a showdown of Samurai and Mongol warrior. Epic! The most elite warrior of 13th century Mongolia was called "Khishigten".
