First off, congratulations on the DD!!! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" /> This is such a gorgeous photo, and I absolutely love how you composed it!
I wanted to say a few things about it... First off, the dew drops, they are so clear so sharp it's unbelievable! The ones on the critter are truly astounding!
I also really love how you blurred the image and only had a very little area in focus. It really brings out the critter and the whole image really is improved with it! All in all it is such a great piece and really deserves the DD!!

I would have loved to have seen the wings a little more instead of having them blurred out with the background. . .

Really nice work on it! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart" />

Congratulations again,

Best,

TimberClipse

Thank you very much for the critique. First ever! It was nearly impossible to get wings sharp because of low ligth. So I had to shoot with f/2.8 thats why it's so blurred from elsewhere. I didn't blur it post-processing at all.

This is one of the most original shots I've seen on DA. What a fantastically executed shot. You should be really proud of this and I'm very jealous of it!
The detail is amazing.

as im working my way through yoour gallery i come across this one and feel that its the best in your gallery so far.

i dont know much about the technical aspects but agree with a comment about the depth of field. i usually see the foreground in focus and the background blurred out and vice versa, but with this you have managed to mix it up to create a really unique image. You have done this with another of your images too and i would love to know how to do it. its probably really simple though

Louise.

Just keep the camera in the right angle. Try few times and you got it.

Poor crane flies...they get killed all the time because people think they're giant mosquitos; meanwhile, the only mosquitos that get that big are the males and the males don't bite. But this photo is beautiful, so maybe, in seeing this, people will think twice about killing a large mosquito-like creature on sight. I've seen other insect shots with dew on them, but usually they're butterflies. Good for you in getting an insect that most people wouldn't normally think of as beautiful.

this makes me feel guilty for murdering those little suckers. I think it's a male skeeter though and those don't bite they just drink nectar. Anyway...amazing shot.

Pentacle5 In reply to TinySpawn [2009-09-26 03:57:30 +0000 UTC]

They look very similar, but female mosquitos don't get that big anyway, so if you see anything that resembles a large mosquito, it's either a male which doesn't bite or a crane fly.
