If you are still looking at digital, you can get Photoshop Elements for about $140 which is WAYYY cheaper than the CS4 at nearly $1000. Works great for painting digitally. Another cheap program is Paint tool SAI. Yea lots of the anime kids use it but I like how the colours blend which they don't do in photoshop. It's around $60 and you can get an english version for it as well.

LOL i have no kitchen table. no dining room. 3 people living in confined spaces. I have my paints and stuff but hardly use them because of the mess and space they take up. Digital I can work on some here and some there without the mess.
