They really do! I can't help but laugh and smile when I go and see them or talk to them.Β

Thank you Β

Thank you! ^_^
I have no idea if they were. I got them from a pet store.
Ludwig sadly passed away a year before Gilbert but they were amazing guinea pigs. Ludwig was more like a dog than a piggie. He always liked to follow me. Gilbert hated to be without Ludwig and would cry so they were an adorable pair.

oh bless!
sorry to hear that you have now lost both of them
the leave behind big holes for such little creatures
pinky is the same as ludwig i often wonder what she was in her former life haha
i dont know what we will do the day we lose one
that would be the first time for us to see a guinea lose its friend
it must be awful

my friend her guinea lost her sister
she lived on for a further 18months!
and she was very different as well she became more talkative and things
she came out her shell massively

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Julesie In reply to Crafty-lil-vixen [2015-06-08 18:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Yes they really do. Both Ludwig and Matthew burrowed very deeply in my heart. The others I've lost also have places deep down too.

Its really sad the day you lose one. You feel awful for the one left over but can't bear to replace the lost one so quickly. Gilbert was never the same after I lost Ludwig. Luddy never had any health conditions whereas Gilbert suffered them most of his life so I never expected to lose Ludwig first. When I did I got Gil a new friend a month later and though the baby tried to bond with him I lost Gil 6 months later - I think from missing Ludwig honestly and his illness got the best of him. He used to fight it but with Luddy gone he just gave up and he let me know when it was time. His new baby cage mate used to stand by the pigloo and protect Gilbert. It was actually all very sweet.
Ryou was Gilberts new cagemate and he is now neutered and living happily with my female guinea pig Sakurai.

Oh thats really sweet she came out of her shell. I imagine she got lonely so learnt to trust her owners more. Bless.

i know its amazing what holes they leave in your heart
i was gutted losing hazel and i hadnt even had her a year

yeah i bet
and its a difficult choice to make weather to "replace" or not as you wonder
what the chances are of the one left will accept the new piglet
oh bless him sounds like he went through a lot but you tried to the very end for him
he sounded so lovely
now you have ryou and sakurai - lovely names
i would have loved to have named mine something japanese themed or just something different
but sadly i cant get away with that with my family!
ryou sounds like one happy pig i have to say

yeah she was terrified at first honestly
she wouldnt eat if you were near her, she would freeze when you held her
she wouldnt really do anything when you got her out to play other than bulge her eyes
we didnt even hear her voice for months
but i put the time, love and effort in i got her eating on me, squeaking all the time
begging for food, running around
like a different pig, im so glad i was able to make her final few months happy

Julesie In reply to Crafty-lil-vixen [2015-06-09 19:57:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah they burrow deeply. I only had Ludwig two but it felt so much longer. I was shocked when I realised it was just two.

Yes exactly!
Oh I truly did. Gilbert knew how spoilt and loved he was too because he went from the most fearful piggie I've ever owned to the most placid and tame boy who would literally stick a leg out for me to cut his toenails and not run if I wanted to pick him up but sit and wait. He was lovely.

Thank you.
I'm lucky enough that being the adult my parents have to like it or lump it when it comes to my name choices. They still give me a look when I come out with the names to begin with though haha.

Aww bless her. It sounds like you did such an amazing job. I'm sure she was incredibly happy with you as her owner.

oh bless, i only had my bunny 3 years before he had to be put to sleep
as he had a tumor and i was gutted my best friend was to leave me
thats why i got tiffin so soon after kip i couldnt cope with the hole he left behind

wow you did great work with Gilbert!!! totally changed him
he must have really trusted and loved you
im hoping the same can be done for Alice bless her

yeah im an adult too and even tho Tiffin is MY OWN rabbit they still
wouldnt see me name him something "different" shall we say
so for tiffin's benefit i gave him a name they wouldnt mind shouting out
i dont mind i guess, the day i have children no one is having a say in the naming!!! haha

i did what i could for her, and it never felt like a chore i loved her from the start
she was such a loving guinea pig she really was

Aw I'm sure you can with her. Good luck!

Ohh lol. Yeah I don't care. xD My parents just have to put up with it. They learn to get used to it anyway.

Aww thats really sweet.
Yeah I love piggies. Thats why I currently have four. Such loving sweet animals once they gain your trust.

Yep I have four. I have two boys together, Romano - my black one in my gallery with the blonde bits- and a new one called Bakura who I've had for about 2 months now.Β  Then of course I have my little lady Sakurai and her husboar Romano. The boys are in a CC homemade cage on a high level and the husboar and wife are on the floor in a homemade CC cage. That way the two boys above won't know about Sakurai

Oh I know right? They have such personality and are so easy to love and rarely ever bite. Perfect pets.

aww bless!! husboar did make me laugh!!
such interesting names
do you plan to introduce them all? or you keeping them separate?
id love for all mine to get along but im not holding my breath
lily is very dominate

i had one i re-homed off a friend she was a very strange guinea
and would bite!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Julesie In reply to Crafty-lil-vixen [2015-06-12 19:33:32 +0000 UTC]

Mine are all staying seperate. If I put the two boys near wifepig and husboar they would get her pregnant and get in a fight with him. You never put males near a female or they (males) fight.

Oh wow really? I have been bitten by Romano twice but they don't tend to bite. Ro's only done it when I'm grooming him and tugged a knot or something.

ah ok, i thought you would have got like 3 girlies and kept them withΒ  a neutered male

yes she was strange she would flip round on your knee literally doing 360 spins on you
whilst squeaking and trying to nip you
my parents thought i was annoying her and therefor provoking her to do these actions
until i said "im not even touching her" held my hands away and she was still doing it
i would never annoy a piggie
she was just a bit strange like that
i liked her but she did have some funny ways

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Julesie In reply to Crafty-lil-vixen [2015-06-13 13:28:44 +0000 UTC]

Nope 3 boys and one girl. I had four boys but one passed (Gilbert) so I got Ryou neutered and got him a wife.

Romano is one of my first piggies (I got him after luddy and gil) and he's still alive so he's too old to be neutered and gotten a wife so I keep getting him male friends

Ohh bless her. She sounds really nervous if shes that scared or she might have some neuro problem. Bless her.

theyre so rewarding guinea pigs are
i love them so pieces

i wondered neuro problem actually because sometimes she would
just get aggressive almost like she could see something others could not
i even trimmed her long fur away from her eyes thinking it was her fur she was seeing
she was in no way nervous trust me she'd take on anyone!
thats what i liked about her XD and she was the youngest!

Well the first one I was rushing on the way to the hospital (my avatar) when he started seizuring and by the time I got there (it was a 40 minute ride...) he was gasping for air and they put him to sleep in my arms as the only kind thing to do.

The second one Gilbert was sort of not really there poor dear. He was slowly fading away and I rushed him to the vet and they put him to sleep too.

The third one Matthew died 2 months ago in my arms. His little head flopped to the side and I helped lift it back up but then his body flopped too and he took his last breath and just fell asleep forever.

I'm glad I was there for each of them. They knew they had their mummy there to watch over them.

Julesie In reply to Crafty-lil-vixen [2015-06-15 14:11:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah It was awful. I can still picture it as clear as anything. Thats why I was relieved Matthew and Gilbert passed so peacefully in comparison.

Yeah you definitely know. They let you know. He had fought for a few months but eventually, he just let me know. It was easy to tell. It still hurt and I still wondered if it was the right thing, taking someones life by my choice but... I think he would have passed within the day or a few days after anyway and this way he went peacefully.

I have no idea how old Matthew was. When I got him the rescue guessed 6-8, my vet said 2-3 so he could have been any of those ages. I had him for a good two and a half years.

It's okay. I've learnt to think of the good memories I've had with them rather than focus on their death so that helps a lot.

it haunts you doesnt it
you just dont ever forget that day

i know its a horrible decision to make
to take a life even if it is done in the kindest manor
sometimes wish it could be done for people but we're left to suffer
my last piggie hazel, was fit and happy but she was in pain every time
she went to the toilet due to a tumor that couldnt be removed
her teeth were also grinding so she would need them rasping soon
i knew she wouldnt cope at all with being left at the vets she was a very scared piggie
i looked at her and how happy she was, but i didnt know what to do
do i keep her alive for my sake but watch her in pain or do i let her
pass on before she becomes unwell and unhappy
i didnt want her final days to be horrible i wanted her to be happy
it was a horrible decision to make, i put her down in the end as i couldnt
bare seeing her in pain each and every time she went to the toilet
i cried so much

a guinea pig 6-8 years old!? wow thats impressive
the longest mine has made it was 6 but he was very poorly in the end

yeah i focus on the good parts i never bring up the death as its not a nice topic
but here i am talking about their deaths!!
im ever so sorry!

It really does haunt you. Matthews and Gilbert's dont haunt me. I know I did the right thing in both of their cases.

Oh it really is. I'm sorry your piggie struggled too. Thats just the question isn't it? Do I keep them alive and watch them struggle but hope they pull through? I asked this three times with Gilbert, twice he was happy enough despite squeaking when he went to the toilet sometimes but he was bright eyed, popcorning and playing. But the third time he was puffed up and I knew that this was finally the time and so I booked him to the vet for the next day and as that day came, he was barely active at all. I have a picture of him in my arms minutes before I took him to the vet. The photo means the world to me.
scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/h…
I was actually crying in the phoot so I had to wipe my eyes and try not to show my sadness as I wanted a nice photo of us.
scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/h…
You can see my eyelids are all red from crying.

Yeah I think he was roughly 4-8 I'm not sure exactly what age but he was an adult when I got him and I had him 2 and a half years. God knows his real age. I'm sorry yours died at 6. That's a fantastic age. My oldest guinea pig died at 9 years old. He was my brothers guinea pig and the first one I ever owned. He's what made me want guinea pigs as an adult.

It's okay.

i took a photo of Hazel in her final hours
crafty-lil-vixen.deviantart.co…
this phot is precious to me as it was her last day and shows
just how happy she was with her life
but i got a lot of nasty comments saying "how could you photograph
and video her knowing she was going to die soon!?"
i did it because she was happy and its how i chose to remember her by
i would no way have photographed her dying gasping for air would i?!

you piggie gilbert was a big boy wasnt he
Alice looks like she could be his daughter X3
you sure he didnt sneak off with a little sow?
he was very sweet looking i have to say
and i understand the importance of those photos
thanks for sharing

woah 9!!!! seriously! i thought we did well at 6!
the other 2 died at 2 and 3 so 6 to use was great!
yours did amazingly at 9
my brother had our first guinea and we felt so lost afterwards he'd died
so we got lily and pinky and ever since then ive been a guinea fan
my brother's piggie didnt like me =.= but ive made sure
the all the piggies like me so i can give them as much love as i can
we only brought my brother's piggie originally to keep my rabbit company
but that didnt work but we kept the piglet and since then 10 years ago
we have kept piggies! amazing how you get into them

Aww thats a lovely photo. Ignore the hater. People don't understand how it feels to know you have to put an animal before yourself sometimes but you want that treasured memory of them.
I took a photo of my Matthew dead because I wanted to keep a photo of him and sadly had none of him from the day before. He didn't look dead though, just peacefully sleeping as I took it immediately as he took his last breath. I wanted him to look alive in it.

Haha yes Gilbert was very big but he shrunk a lot because of his illness. He used to be my fattest piggie, and honestly, that helped save his life for a very long time. Ludwig was always a very tiny, skinny boy so when he got ill I lost him immediately, but Gilbert's chub helped him survive. Thats why I am happy if my guinea pigs are quite chunky, it might save their life if they get seriously ill as they lose weight so fast.
Haha I'm pretty sure he didn't. He was gay. xD He never reacted to any female sows and would cry and cuddle Ludwig.
Thank you

Yep! But back then 9 was a normal age for a guinea pig. They used to live 7-10 years but because people have been overbreeding them and not well guinea pigs life expectancy has dropped to 4-7 years.
We owned Itchy when I was about 8? and I'm 25 now to give you an idea of how long ago that was.

Ludwig died at 2 and Gilbert 3 so I haven't had any of mine live very long. Technically Matthew did but I only had him for 2 and a half years. I wish I had owned him his whole life.
My current oldest is my piggie Romano. I got him in 2011. Hopefully I have him for many more years. He's my oldest piggie I've ever owned - Itchy was my brothers so doesn't really count as mine...

Aw that story sounds just like me! My brothers guinea pig died and I wanted one. My parents said no so when I turned 20 I bought my first guinea pigs, Ludwig and Gilbert and have loved them ever since.

oh my goodness, i havent even seen any of my pets dead
you were strong to do that
and i understand why you did it

aww he was chunky was he :3 its amazing tho as even tho they can lose weight
they dont lose size its like their skin cant stretch back!
i prefer guinea's chunky i think they look better being chunky and its more to cuddle ^^
aww he sounds such a cutie he might have seen ludwig as his brother :3

i had no idea about that
i can actually believe that tho as depending on what guinea book you read
they all say different life expectancies
Itchy XD cute name, im 23

aww your didnt survive long ether its heart breaking
i know what you mean Nutty was my brother's piglet so i dont count him as mine
he hated me anyway as the only times i got to hold him were to cut his
claws and bathe him so he just associated me with pain =.=

well nutty was my brother's but towards the end of his 6 years my brother became
a teenager and had less to do with him so my mum took over some of his responsibilities
as nutty became unwell and needed a lot of help (we kept him alive as my brother was during his exam period, selfish i know)
so i ended up helping him as well and got used to him i was more into my rabbit and hammy at the time tho
then when nutty died my mum was heart broken she cried and was surprised at how
much she had gotten attached to the little creature as we all didnt know
much about guineas when we got him and struggled to take to him at first
so mum wanted guineas but my brother didnt want any pets
so i said to mum "i'll help and support you if you want some guineas but we need to
get girls this time and a pair not just one"
2 weeks later after nutty lily and pinky were re-homed

It's a really hard sight. I just stroked him nontstop as I sat there crying. He still felt warm so I tried to imagine it as him sleeping. It was so hard watching the Vet take him away into the back room to be later cremated.

Yeah he was a proper chunkster. I have another chunky piggie atm too. Ryou. He's flat furred and looks the same size as my furry ones. He's such a chunky little man but when he stands he has such a mouse looking face he doesn't look fat at all. His belly gives him away though and his triple chins. xD

Yeah its because as time has changed so has their expectancy. Really sad honestly. I hope in the future it won't be 1-3 years. That'd be upsetting.

Ohh aww, it sounds like you all cared for him a lot towards the end. That's very sweet. How nice that it gave lily and pinky a nice chance with a loving home. ^_^

haha aww Ryou he sounds like he has the good life that is for sure!
lily is flat furred but IS bigger than pinky who is furry shes just
a big pig who lives for food =.=
lily has triple chins!!! haha and the belly drags on the floor XD

oh god that would be the age of hamsters
i hope that doesnt happen!Β  otherwise it would me my lily and pinky
would technically be grandma age!

yeah they were just waiting for us they were 10weeks old and the left overs
from 2 different litters so they were placed together and sold as needing re-homing!
we took them home there and then!

Thank you. It was hard but I'd do anything for my piggies. Yes I've cremated all three of them. I have Ludwig and Gilbert in Ludwig's cremation box and his name is in gold. It's beautiful. It's in my room on a shelf with photos of them both and an angel statue and fake rose.
Matthew is in another similar box but in the guinea pigs room on a shelf next to Romano's cage because he was Romano's cage mate. He also has a photo with him.

Oh Ryou does. He has it good. He sits by the bars waiting for me and food XD He's a greedy guts.
Lol Lily sounds just like Ryou. How cute

I know right? It'd be dreadful! I really don't want it to happen but if people keep mass breeding with little genetic knowledge it probably will.

Oh thats the same as Ludwig and Gilbert. I don't know if they were related but they were the leftover two because both had red eyes and no one wanted red eyed guinea pigs. I adore red eyed piggies. My newest has red eyes and I haven't had a red eyed piggie since then so I was so happy to have another one.

wow you have a little shrine in your room to them!!
thats so lovely and sweet!
we have ours all buried together and each one has an animal
ornament (like rabbit or guinea) as theyre "tomb stone"

lily is the same!! they live outside the back door and if the door
is open she will squeak hopeful squeaks
and always beg for food when shes with you
almost like shes not been fed for a week
im sure they would get on
she lives for food

yeah i have no idea why lily and pinky were just there waiting for us
we just re-homed another baby - alice - she had red eyes and
we think no one wanted her due to her eyes and then we brought her a sister
and she was the only red eye on in the litter so i thought id rescue her
before she gets left by herself like alice was
they are my first red eye pets actually
the amount of people who have told me their red eyed pets have been the best
it has amazed me!

Yeah I do Thank you.

Aww that's sweet too. The reason I haven't done that is I won't be living in this home too much longer as I'll need my own home soon - I live with my parents right now, so I can't bare to leave their bodies in the garden I want them to be with me.

Ohh bless her what a cutie. Mine live in the spare room and I cannot literally wake up without Bakura figuring it out and wheeking his little lungs out. I don't know how he does it but he knows the difference between me moving in my sleep to me waking up and moving in bed.

Aww. I seriously love the red eyed piggies. They are gorgeous.
Red eyed pets are amazing!

i guessed actually thats why you didnt bury them
i dont know what i'll do when the time comes to move home!
but it wont be happening for a long while yet
so i imagine theyre wont be anything left of them in the garden by the time
we move but i will take their tomb stones with us probably
i have photos and memories so theyre always be with me

haha get woken up by hungry demands X3 i love it
i love how they make out they are starving and not been fed it days!
awwΒ  bless him they soon learn how to get food out of you to he probably
watches you stirring and thinks "right now! turn on the volume!"

i know i had no idea im loving mine already
they make fantastic pets im so glad i got them!

Yeah I just find it easier. I couldn't leave them behind.
Aww yeah thats true. How nice.

Oh god me too. They make out they are starving literally minutes after I fed them so my mother thinks I haven't and then they get more food. Cheeky monkeys.

Aww I'm so glad. ^_^ They are so sweet.

That is exactly like my guinea pigs. XD
Romano is a good boy and doesn't do it but Bakura, Ryou and Sakurai are naughty. Sakurai used to be the ring leader as she'd wheek but Bakura wheeks any time he hears a person. Sakurai only did it around dinner time. XD

Haha yeah you do. It's always the newcomer too. Sakurai was the new one before Bakura was. xD

Omg I love when their little ears flap when they wheek!
