beautiful art!
as for your questions, I dont face that dilemma because i don't see any issues with ethical, proper breeding. In my area the adopt process is incredibly flawed as you get no autonomy over the animal you adopt, you can't even decide to crate your animal on your own. You need to ask permission, if you're found doing it without permission then they can take your animal from you. Theres a few other examples i could list off the top of my head, but my main point being that adoption in my area is flawed, extremely difficult, and we also have a dog shortage! My country often imports strays from around the world to keep up with the demand for strays (namely dogs, unsure if this is the same for cats!).Β Honestly, I've looked into breeding my dream breed (Neapolitan Mastiff) as a hobby--and hobby breeders, fully registered, are the best breeders. Breeders that do this for their living tend to look at the puppies as money and a mortgage payment, instead of a creature needing a good life.Β

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Can you tell me what country that is? Dog shortage seems like a very odd situation to me, I've never heard of something similar and am rather curious about that. Also, from all my years in animal welfare, I only ever saw that how the adoption process works is solely in the responsibility of the organisation or person giving away the animal, so I can't think why there should be an issue with that in a whole area.
Apart from that, I have of course heard the good breeder vs bad breeder argument, but that's not where I come from. From an animal rights perspective, there is really not much difference between the two. It comes down to humans creating an artificial hierarchy of "right" and "wrong" individuals, of creatng an industry around the usage of animals for their own purposes and of caring deeply about one species while exploiting or destroying most other species on the planet. So that's my bird's eye view.

The issue with the adoption process is that I paid for an animal, am caring for said animal, am the sole provider for said animal, and the adoption agency still has a say in how i train, crate, and medically care for the dog. They require that, should the agency call, i have to respond even if its been years or they can reclaim the dog. They contractually obligate people to refrain from boarding in certain conditions (ie number of dogs the boarder boards at a single time). When you purchase a dog from a breeder you dont get this hassle--you are vetted to ensure you will be a good provider for the dog and, if its a powerful or large breed, that you are capable of handling said breed. You have more liberties with a purchased bred dog.
Many animals are bred with the purpose of fulfilling human needs. Various working breeds are bred for specific traits thay another breed does not carry. Dogs as a whole started domestication because they were proving beneficial to humans. Other species such as cows, falcons, pigeons, and other farm animals are bred specifically to help humans. Theres nothing wrong with that. Humans, now with a better understanding of what is and is not healthy for the animals they breed, do decide what is good and bad. They breed OUT the unwanted health concerns, and breed together healthier dogs. Inbreeding has strict regulations to distance dogs as much as possible and to keep gene pools diverse and to keep bad genes out.
You can make the good/bad argument more legitimately, in my opinion, for animals that have not been pets for thousands of years like american tigers, lions, etc. Those are still wild animals being crossbred, incredibly inbred, and that should not be held in cages nor truly exist in the americanas. Many owners rationalize it as 'theyre trying to save the species' when the animal they own is invalid in any repopulation effort due to the mixing of subspecies.
I dont see how humans 'destroying other species' (interpreting as poaching, deforestation, black market trade, etc.) has anything to do with dog breeding.Β

I see why this adoption process demands a lot from the new owners, even though it sounds like it's a process that only one very specific organisation uses. Where I come from, everyone is free to adopt an animal from the source of their choosing, I hope it's the same way where you live. Other options might be other animal organisations or adopting directly from a previous owner.
The idea of animal rights of which I speak centers around the assumption that humans have no right to exploit, harm or kill other animals for their own benefit, because they can feel emotions and pain the same way we do, and thus should have a right to choose freely what to do with their own lives. It's a holistic concept that questions a lot of the general assumptions our societies have with the way we treat all animals. From this angle, there's absolutely no difference between a tiger, a dog, a cow, or a rat.
But actually, I don't want to have a deep discussion on that subject here. I initially really just wanted to know if people have ethical dilemmas of their own when creating art.

Wow, I like how they have a painted look to them. It makes it feel like its hand-painted, (traditional) although it gives a nice blend of Digital artwork into it. The shading is beautiful and the colors mix really well. Great work!
Also don't go to the website from the person below me, its a scam. They will take your money, you can't trust people these days.Β
