Quicky question!

When you ink outta photoshop, after the scan etc, do you Ctrl -L and change the black and white levels to make the lines darker and the background lighter prior to coloring?

If so, how do you find this method for just pencil drawings?

Love your work, and wish I could get out to a Con one day to meet ya!

-Thanks
Sean

Hi!
Actually I don't use PS "Levels" anymore. I used this technique for a long while, but I found out that "Image>Adjustments>Threshold" or "Alt+I>A>T" is a faster method to obtain the same or better result ON INKED DRAWINGS. The "Threshold" settings are variable according the quality of the scanning, but it's usually between 140-180.
I never got a 100% efficient methodology to get pencils precisely like inks (I think nobody does, so almost every comic book is still inked). If you have an artwork without lots of crosshatches and small details, you can try Ctrl+L or thr "Threshold" way and get some relatively satisfactory results.
Applying PS Filters like "Smart Blur" and "Smart Sharpen" before start the process may help you to minimize the image "noise". Also using a 4b or 6b pencil takes the artwork nearer to "inked".
Hope I could be helpful.
I'll surely be on some Cons in 2009. I'll keep evebody up to date here in DA. Hope we meet so.
Thanks!

Wow! I didn't expect that much info, but wow, thank you so much! This is one of the fantastic reasons why I post on DA, getting help from the guys who really know what's going on, and will take the two plus second to write ya back. Man, you rock! I'll give the two methods a serious run at, and let ya know how the results ended up.

I really appreciate your time and the effort you put into your work, and still ya find time to help us aspiring artists out. Again, ya rock!

Thanks one more time, and I seriously can't wait to see more work from you.

-Sean
