I wonder what sort of armadillo he's supposed to be. South American, naturally, so not likely to be the nine-banded armadillo common to the southwestern US. I do like his design, though.

It's the three-banded armadillo, nicknamed "tatu-bola" ("ball armadillo") because of its ability of rolling up in a perfect ball as a defense.
That's why it was chosen to be the mascot in Brazilian World Cup.
By the way the nine-banded armadillo is found in Central and South America too.
