Class: Intermediate II -- 1st place! CDI5* Tanz in den Mai 2023 - RESULTS

Horse: Caschelle (11 y.o.)
Country: Canada

Story:
(Word count: 648 words)

Nora closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she heard her name being called again, Caschelle held her head high as she breathed in the competition atmosphere. It was the last day of the Tanz in den Mai, only their class and the Grand Prix Music Freestyle class after them were left.

The Canadian rider asked for the Trakehner mare to step into the arena, Caschelle already posing and showing her best self even if the test had yet to start. If there was something the mare loved was to show off, and there was nowhere else more perfect than a competition to do just that. The bay splash mare trotted around the arena, making a perfect halt by the judge by the “C”. The test had yet to start, but the mare’s attitude boosted Nora’s confidence to the max.

The blonde rider asked the mare for a collected canter, the pair taking their time before entering the center line. By the “X”, Caschelle provided yet another perfect halt, this one already counting for their test.

Another of the strong points the bay splash Trakehner mare had and that Nora had had the privilege to enjoy was her collected gates. As they moved forward in a collected trot her movements won over anyone who had their eyes on the show ring.

Nora rode through every single stride the mare took from the very beginning of the test, using the whole arena, cutting no corners and taking all the chances she had to work with half halts. The Canadian hadn’t had much time to get to know the mare before the competition, after all she’d just leased Cash for the event. Not having such a strong bond and partnership with the mare might pose a disadvantage against other pairs, so Nora did not want to waste any decimals they could get with their performance.

The test entailed a great variety of exercises, from extension to collection, flying changes and pirouettes. Cash did everything that Nora asked, the rider working as hard as she could with the mare. The Canadian was used to performing at this level, but she was amazed every time with how much an effort they all had to put on a test that lasted no longer than a few minutes.

Nora collected Caschelle back on the last extended trot line, the mare getting well into the corner with a great tempo. The rider forced herself to take a couple breaths on the short side of the arena, before taking the turn to do one last center line and collect the gait to passage, putting all her efforts for one last halt by the “I”.

Caschelle perked her ears forward at the sound of the applause, Nora couldn’t be happier with their performance. Leaving the mare with long reins she generously scratched her neck as they left the arena in an energetic walk. Noland was waiting by the “A” for them, the other dressage rider from Scott Peak Stables had a smile as broad as Nora’s on his face.

“Talk about a great test!” Norman held out his hand to Caschelle, the mare quickly getting to the treats the man had on his palm.

“She was just great!” Nora was still running her left hand over Cash’s neck, the bay splash Trakehner delighted with all the attention she was getting. “Now I wished I could have leased her for a while longer…”

“Oh? Are we getting another rider at SPS addicted to Trakehners?” Noland looked back at the Canadian. After Julia had brought her first Trakehner to Scott Peak Stables everyone seemed to have caught some interest in the breed.

“Perhaps.” Nora admitted, unable to hold back a chuckle. “Perhaps…” Her eyes shone as her mind had, perhaps, reached out to quite a nice solution. Just the idea of it made the Canadian rider smile.

*****
SO GLAD I leased Cash for this event! It's been a while since entered/drawn a dressage show and the vibrant bay color of this mare has highlighted the whole piece!
Had to add a few flying petals to give a more spring-y vibe to the piece, I think they give one nice final touch to it all!

Story-wise, after the show Nora decides to breed a baby foal out of Caschelle :3 She had so much fun in the event with the mare that she couldn't pass the chance to have a mini Cash all for herself! So yes! Another little baby foal is on the way!

Hope you all like it! <3
