From a distance it looks photo-realistic, but I like the fact that it doesn't when you see it up close. Visible pencil strokes are cool!

Well, this one is oil paint (I do do pencil, not as much lately but still); but, yes, I agree wholeheartedly about loving the paint/pencil strokes when looking up close. It gives it a nice painterly look. If I wanted a perfect representation, I would have grabbed a camera. Yes, photo-realism can be fun to jump in on for the accomplishment and some other situations where I want a totally customized image; but I like most of my paintings to have that glompy painted look.

I agree! Photo-realism is impressive, but the painted look is more my style.
