Alpha watched the news. She hadn't noticed she started tearing a piece of paper into small bits in her hands as she watched what was unfolding. A Black teen had been killed in cold blood by a police officer in her home town. They said the young boy was going to college soon.

"You're watching it too?"

She looked up to see her husband sit next to her, his hair braided into two braids. He looked at her, his sky blue eyes flashing worry. She sighed as she leaned into him.

"It's scary...That could have been our sons. It could have been Dezi or Khalil. We could have lost them like that. Dezi passes for Native but Khalil doesn't. I'm just..." Alpha said, her body tremoring as she tried to bottle her emotions. She felt her husband's arms wrap around her shoulders.

"I know. I can only imagine how scary it is for you to see this. I watch the news all the time and every story of Black people getting hurt by Police officers never cease to hurt my heart. Because, like you said, it could have been one of our children. It could have been Yasmin, it could have been Kassie or Khalil or even Miracle. It could have been Serena or Dezi." Desmond rubbed his wife's back.

"This happens all the time. But people refuse to see it. If we live in such a post-racial society, why are things like this happening?"

"As long as whites know they can get away with it, they'll continue while spouting off that we live in a "post-racial" society. It's sickening. They'll preach love and peace but can't comprehend by People of Color won't go to the police."

They sat in silence before Desmond lifted Alpha's face up as he planted his lips onto hers. He used his thumb to wipe a tear away and said, 'We'll get through it. And I hope that the man who did that will be prosecuted."

"That's only a wish, baby..." Alpha said, sighing. "I want some ice cream."

"Your wish is my command. Now, do you want it in a cone or on my body?" Desmond gave a grin which caused Alpha to laugh.
