Description The japanese name of this monster - and the archetype - displays the kanji 堕天使 which means literally means "Fallen Angel" - from 堕 "degenerated, fallen, collapsed" and 天使 "Messenger of Skies, Angel" -. The word itself has the extended meaning of "Lucifer" even when the archetype has monsters inspired by non-christian cultures, like this one.

The name イシュタム is the transcription of the Spanish transcription of the Mayan name Ixtab, which was the goddess of suicide depicted as a rotten corpse hanging from a rope, although, the actual existence of a pre-Hispanic goddess of suicide is debatable. In the TCG the name was changed to Ixchel, another Spanish render for a Mayan name. Ixchel was an important Mayan goddess related to the jaguar and pregnacy, whose cult was witnessed by the first conquistadors.
