They'd been back on the Normandy for less than a month, Shepard finally discharged from her recovery so they could begin their tour of diplomatic missions. The galaxy was in disarray, and they were a rallying point. Shepard had fought Saren, stopped the collectors, destroyed the reapers, and more between, and Ashley had never seen her break. She wasn't sure what to make of it; whether Shepard was the strongest person she'd even known, or if her best friend, her sometimes lover, was a time bomb waiting to happen.

All she could do is hold Shepard as she slept soundly, exhausted, and wait to see if she'd have to pick up the pieces.
