Strangely enough this was love at second sight! Not the place, but this particular view. Long explanation following, beware!

Mesologgi was just a quick stop on our way back from our Easter vacation in Western Greece. Not accidental too, *KirlianCamera had told me about the place, it’s huge lagoon (a sure way to make me desperately want to visit a place is to mention the key words “lake” or “lagoon”!) and that he had read that there are fishermen’s huts in the lake. We arrived early enough for a trip around the lagoon and sure thing I immediately fell in love with the place, the lagoon, its boats, its people moving around by bikes, or taking long leisurely walks around the lake enjoying the sunset.

The thing is that upon hearing “huts” I had created a totally different picture in my mind of a much more primitive lodge and this sight kind of disappointed me at first. And I wasn’t the only one. My constant companion was equally unimpressed and after the trip around the place he stated that he wanted to try some shots at a salt plane he had spotted. At that time we were going past this hut for the second time and this time all of a sudden I was impressed and decided to make my stand there. Kozy said he’d go with my instinct and stay with me. This was good news cause I figured that I’d look less of a weirdo if there was someone else there doing what I was doing. It was also bad news cause this was one of the places where there is only one right shooting angle both aesthetically and practically: one very small ledge below the road. I attempted some shots while standing on the road wishing I would not get run down by the really fast moving cars but soon gave up, went down the ledge, moved as far away from him as I could (3 whole steps!) and found myself on a totally unstable, soft and mushy bed of dried seaweed! Needless to say I didn’t dare move or even breathe during the shots cause the whole ground moved and very soon my legs started trembling from being crouched so low while being so still!

What I liked about this hut is that the pier leading to it was completely detached from the land. I chose to go for a long exposure on this one cause I wanted the reflection perfectly formed and completely unbroken to give the illusion of a construction balanced in mid air, floating in space and time.

Odd as it may seem, post-processing mainly consisted of reducing saturation and slightly adjusting the white balance because the setting sun right behind me combined with the ND filter had given the hut an intensely red color.
