Description

Episode: Roadie to Nowhere

Synopsis: Luna learns Chunk was like her in high school and worries her ambition to be a rocker is unrealistic.

Elaboration: After an entire season of being labelled irrelevant, and having very little to do in the grand scheme of things, Luna Loud is once again receiving a long overdue day in the limelight which will hopefully enable her character to shine again. For Bros About to Rock and House Music were two especially beloved episodes of the first season, particularly because they provided the fans with so many awesome moments as well as character development for the fan favourite. Given the synopsis, Chunk, previously a minor character with very little screen time or overall presence, could finally be given a little development as well. As far as what direction the narrative will take, it may be that Luna learns if she continues to pursue her dreams passionately and works hard and never quits, she may eventually fulfil her ambition of becoming a rock star. Maybe Chunk had the same ambition but not the same drive or work ethic to meet up to the standard required. Or maybe it will turn out Chunk actually wasn’t that talented, and Luna has something special about her which could make the difference. Of course, that’s the direction the narrative could take if the writers opt for the protagonist-centred optimistic approach to tackling this type of plot. Perhaps if the writers decide to tackle a harsh truth with this story, it could be that Chunk was every bit as talented, motivated and driven as Luna currently is, but sometimes things just don’t turn out the way you want, no matter how much you want it or work for it. This approach would be difficult to pull off without it making the episode seem too depressing or mean-spirited, but if it were to work out, it could be an especially powerful story which forces Luna to accept the possibility that maybe she won’t necessarily be the famous rock star she aspires to be, and make plans for back-up career options if her pipe dream doesn’t work out. Of course, this is the type of plot which could work for most of the siblings (I.e. Luan with her comedy shtick, or Lynn with her passion for sports) and something many fans probably wonder when it comes to these characters, and whether or not they’ll ever be successes out of doing what they love. That being said, this should be a very interesting episode to watch, and I’ll be intrigued what direction the story takes and what it does for Luna’s character.

Episode: A Fridge Too Far

Synopsis: Lincoln wages war after his food is filched from the refrigerator.

Elaboration: Well, isn’t this quite the interesting twist, given the context. Normally in this show, Lincoln will be among the least aggressive, opposing and confrontational of the siblings, fulfilling the role as the only sane man and attempted mediator of Brawl in the Family, as well as generally being the sibling in the middle of a given conflict rather than actively fighting against the others (like in The Tents Debate). At worst, he’s occasionally a part of the conflict between the 11 siblings, like in It’s a 5x Loud House, but he’s not normally the one who actively seeks to erupt conflicts and violence against his sisters. Now, after so many fans have spent so long bashing on the sisters for being overly violent, mean, uncaring and harsh towards Lincoln (of course, many of these complaints are often inaccurate, overblown or just plain nonsense), it’s Lincoln who is going to start an all-out war (apparently, if we are going to take the implied meaning of the synopsis literally) against his sisters, and over something so trivial, no less. As such, it will be rather intriguing to see Lincoln acting as the aggressor for a change, and what different types of interactions between Lincoln and the other sisters will emerge throughout the story as a result. Definitely, this episode, while having the potential for character derailment, could also turn out to be an especially strong and commendable tale in which the bond between Lincoln and his sisters strengthens and improves, and overcome petty grudges and conflicts with each other together, providing and highlighting character growth and enhancement. I certainly await to see how this episode will pan out, and hopefully its execution will be managed efficiently, and we won’t be getting a repeat of one of those despised episodes. Now that we enter season 3, the creators of the show should be working to iron out the wrinkles which were present in the first 2 seasons, and the mishandling of narrative conflict is certainly one of those wrinkles.

Episode: Selfie Improvement

Synopsis: When Carol Pingrey's photograph gets more "likes" on social media than Lori's, she tries to one up her.

Elaboration: Supposedly, this is the first episode to be directed by someone other than Chris Savino or Kyle Marshall, according to the Wiki, so that alone will make this episode rather interesting to watch, as some notable differences may become apparent when doing so. Who knows? What I do know is many people will be anticipation for this as it marks the return of an incredibly minor character who has become one of the series’ ensemble dark horses amongst the fandom. I am talking, of course, about Carol Pringrey, the Lori lookalike who is also meant to function as a high school rival to the eldest Loud sister. While I normally wouldn’t be overly excited about yet another Lori episode (Lori is a great character, but she’s had far more focal stories than most of the others, including the ones in greater need of screen time and narrative focus), I would like to see interactions between herself and Carol, as Carol could function as an enjoyably antagonistic and charismatic rival for Lori to duke it out with. Such interaction could be potentially fun and entertaining to watch unfold if executed well. Of course, the concept behind the premise isn’t particularly interesting, as it all revolves around talking selfie photos. I can’t think of much that can actually be done with such a simple, mundane concept off the top of my head that would actually be amusing or exciting to see, but then again, it’s not my job to think of such things. On the other hand, the writers, directors and producers may have really thought this through and put their creative hats on, and the result could be positively surprising. It wouldn’t be the first time this show had exceeded expectations, so I won’t let the seemingly mundane plot premise hinder my hopes for this one. Hopefully the writers won’t pull a cheap tactic and not actually show Carol on screen (by having Lori merely mention Carol and then the story solely focus on her taking selfies, which could be quite a boring scenario if that option is pursued), as she’s overdue a significant, on-screen role at this point. Let’s just see where the writers take this idea.

Episode: No Place Like Home School

Synopsis: Thinking it looks like fun, the other kids try to get in on Lola's home-schooling.

Elaboration: This will probably be your average, solid story. It was the first episode title to be revealed back when early hints of the content for season 3 were being released and introduced to the online community. Naturally, it’s also one of the first episodes to be broadcast. It appears envy will be the main theme of this narrative, as the other siblings go to great lengths to receive the same home schooling deal that Lola has somehow managed to gain (it will be rather intriguing to see if there is an explanation for how and when Lola began receiving home schooling, as she was shown to attend public school along with everyone else in episodes of the second season; most notably in Out of the Picture. Anyway, some or possibly even all of the other siblings seem to want the same thing after seeing Lola have fun with it, so there is bound to be some mischief, scheming and hi-jinks courtesy of the Loud siblings in this one. Hopefully, the activity and behaviour of the siblings will not come across as too grating, annoying or insufferable in this story, and they will learn from the experience and grow as characters from it. Either way, I expect them to provide we, the audience, with many great laughs and chuckle some moments along the way. Probably nothing special, I’m still betting this will be pretty good television.
