The old man here is Dr. Rook, the maker of Proto, or how he speaks of himself "his DAD". He never speaks about Proto being a machine nor weapon, he reffers to him as his own flesh and blood.

*About the story:
Proto got bad damages while fighting with Chipp Zanuff, so he visited Dr. Rooks laboratory, for some repairs. Because Wolva wanted to see the hakase so badly, she came along with him. Neo wasn't build yet. But he was already in the "planning" phase.

Rook hakase treats Wolva like Protos girlfriend. Well more or less. He oftens says things like:
