event: RPS Royal Show Jumping Event 2015
class: Show Jumping
horse: bc Severin
rider: Cameron Muller

story
He tried to focus as he brushed out Sev’s mane. “This isn’t a big deal Cam, you’ve earned this.” The nineteen year old told himself. It wasn’t every day that working students got to come with their barns overseas and prove themselves. But here he was in Romania, riding with Beezie and John Madden, on a former Olympic horse. But Beezie had gotten injured and as he’d been the one to ride Severin at home, he had been brought in as an alternate rider her a couple of weeks ago. Part of him wondered if he was ready, It wasn’t like he wasn’t without his own list of achievements, he’d been riding since he was three years old, and he had medals and championships and numerous titles under his belt already. However, this was different. This was his shot, in just a few minutes, he’d be riding out into that ring and proving himself on television.

God, he hadn’t thought of that, this was being broadcast on Euro Sport… Sure he’d been livestreamed on USEF and before and whatever but this was Euro Sport.

Cameron took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

“Hey Cam, Sev all groomed and warmed up?”

A familiar voice of the Madden’s groom rang out. And Cameron turned his head, “Sure is.”

“Alright, well you’re in the hole, so Beez sent me to come get you.”

Gathering up Sev’s reins, Cameron walked the big athletic stallion out of the stall and placed the brush with the rest of their equipment and double checked his girth before taking ahold of his stirrups and hoisting himself into the saddle. Just a few more minutes, he felt like he was going to be sick. Letting Severin walk off in the direction of the arena, Cameron went through the check list of his gloves, his stirrups. In a fetal attempt to calm himself down he ran his hand down Sev’s crest, breathing in time with this as the big black stallion took in the scene of the competitor ahead of them. Feeling a hand on his thigh he looked down at the owner and smiled at the girl, it was their groom.

“You’re going to do great out there Cam. Just ride like you’re at home and nothing will go wrong.”

Cameron gave a doubtful scoff under his breath but replied, “Thanks Cassie.”

Collecting up his reins, he watched as the competitor before him finished their round. This was it, they were up. There was applause from the crowd and then he watched as they trotted toward the in gate, he had to force himself to get Sev moving forward. Walking into that arena, the entire world seemed to fall silent. He heard the sound of the bell signaling they could start but it just echoed in his mind, and with a nudge of his heel, he directed him toward that first fence… “Let’s just get through this big man…” He whispered.

Okay so I am actually really pleased with how this came out... I might still go back and edit things over the next week but still this is just... wow... I'm so happy.

I like all the little details in this. And that tack looks really complicated but you pulled if off nicely. The lighting gives a very subtle "spotlight" effect but the focus still remains on the horse and rider.

Thank you! Drawing tack is quite possibly my favorite part of ridden images

omg I hate drawing tack ;_; coloring it is worse. Whenever I see nicely drawn tack I'm probably sobbing somewhere in the corner over how nice it looks. xD

Hehe it gets simpler the more you do it, and when you study it.

This looks absolutely wonderful. It appears professional and I hope it does well in the show. I especially love the shading, the lighting, and the way the light sort of reflects back off the obstacle onto Sev. Well done!

The highlighting off the jump was actually a tip from Lone-Onyx-Stardust. But yes it was rather difficult to get the entire setting just right!
