Not really. I guess no matter what I do, the disney is there in the back of my head but I researched different species of all of these insects until I had put together a grouping that made sense color wise. Then I went over image after image of historical research. It's a 2" binder full of research

When doing a costume design, how hard is the time period aspect? Do you research the time period first then sketch or vice versa?

If the period isn't indicated, deciding on period should be determined by what best serves the play. After you've come to that, put the play down put the pencil down and research till your fingers bleed, books, paintings, period garments. After you've built up an informed internal frame of reference then start sketching. It's always good to have the research next to you when you're sketching
