Description Slowly but surely I'm figuring out how to use Photoshop. So I decided the artwork I commissioned off ~glovestudios last summer was as good a place as any to start with. I didn't expect to finish this today! The fur made my arm ache... I think next time I'll stick to something less texture-y. Many thanks to ~SwiftclawFlamewing for all your help. So yeah... since this is my first major coloring job with Photoshop, constructive crits would be welcome. Just keep in mind that I did it all by mouse since I don't have one of those fancy-shmancy tablets.

Oh, he has an anatomically correct beast mode?

Yes, why do you ask?

No reason, I just find it interesting as not a lot of Beast Wars art feature anatomically correct beast modes.

Well, I didn't have the artist draw his parts.

I am very pleased to be seeing this, ja ja.

Excellent work on the fur. I do not envy your right- or left, as the case maybe... or foot if you draw with your toes- arm right now.

The only complaints... he still looks a lil... half bald. Perhaps its just me... but he has a very thin fur line going on there. And maybe s'more shading on the muscles to give 'em more... UHMPH.

NICE JOB.

Glad you like. Not sure what I could have done to make him look hairier, using the technique I did. Perhaps future attempts will turn out better.

I take it you like muscles with UHMPH on a male?

Awesome artwork with a very impressive level of detail. I imagine your arm must have fallen off to do each an every hair like that. Sesh...still it does look really cool!

Holy cow! That's a ton of craziness detail! Though my Photoshop expertise says, next time, just use a fur brush.

O.o

Blahaha! I know I'm such an ass! Srsly though, this is a great first major coloring. I can't harshly critique anything outside of saying: Keep playing around with Photoshop's. I think you're going have a lot of fun with what you find.

And no worries. I started off with a mouse too

Is there such a thing as a fur brush? oO I can't tell if you're joking or not.

Oh honey, there's a brush for EVERYTHING! [link]

I don't know if this will work with any photoshop older than cs3.

Here try this link: I hope its easy enough to understand how to make brushes. [link]

Like I said, when you get into it, I think you're going to have a lot of fun!

See, this is what I meant when you were talking about skills and talent and stuff......I don't know a first thing about Photoshop (or any digital graphics for that matter), and couldn't do digital colours like this to save my life!

That fur is EXCELLENT! There are several places where the hairs are 'growing in the wrong direction' (had a dog ages ago), but it's totally irrelevant for the whole picture....the texture effect is great!

Good job, pal

JZLobo In reply to saganich [2010-04-16 19:21:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I tried making the fur look as natural as possible but I'm aware it looks screwy in a few places. I really should have looked at a couple photos for reference while I worked. Hmm.

saganich In reply to JZLobo [2010-04-17 20:45:57 +0000 UTC]

No big deal, really....besides, dogs are quadripeds, and the direction of their hair growth is somewhat influenced by gravity (look at sloths, for example - they spend their lives hanging upside down, and their hair grows is in opposite direction of all the other mammals).

This guy here is a biped, so his hair growth direction shouldn't necessarily be as same as the one in dogs.
Judging by his digitgrade hind legs, though, I bet that he likes to get down on all fours from time to time, when engaging in some wicked chase

JZLobo In reply to saganich [2010-04-18 01:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and I figured as active as he is, his fur probably gets ruffled around a lot. And you're right, he can alternate between two and four legs in beast mode, in case he has to go loping after someone.
