The one song we all know, but have yet to perform.

La canciΓ³n que nosotros saber, pero tenemos no todavΓa tocar.

I recently read up on the art movement "Danse Macabre" (translated in many different languages). The mentality of the dead being more lively than the living and that dead knows no difference between the rich and poor.

p.s. please feel free to correct my spanish, i'm still studying.

Amazing! Somehow I get both Camille Saint-Saens and X-files associations from this picture. Reeeeeaally nice.

Funny you say that because Saint-Saens, plus several other artists who dabbled in the concept of Danza de la Muerte, helped to inspire this image.

And now i cannot look at this image without having the x-files theme playing in my head! Thank you for that!

I know how to make plushies somewhat well. I'm very good at making patterns the patterns. It's more the sewing I have problems with, but I'm getting better.

The main problem with this darling little things would be the tiny little legs. They would be difficult to sew/stuff if they stayed to scale. Hypothetically speaking, though, they are very doable. xD

Yea, i can sew somewhat, good enough for patch work on cloths. But maybe one day i'll get some plushie skellies made....once i figure out how to do their legs and arms (that does seem concerning)....maybe i should look at Halloween decorations for ideas

XD Well if you'd like I would be willing to try and doodle you up a pattern. I enjoy a good challenge now and again. You'd be free to use it as you want.

Cool, i might give it a try, how much do you know about making plushies?

How much is a hard question to answer. XD I know enough to know that I don't know everything. I know quiet a bit, though. On a scale of 1-10 I'd be a good 7. Still learning, but better than your average Joe blow by a long shot. :3 Do you have a question or something?

Well considering i've never made one maybe you can give me a lot of pointers or tips. I could look around at halloween decorations to figure out how to make the body, but making the round head seems complicated...
One major question is: would you use a sewing machine or just a needle and thread? And how would you keep the head nice and round? Or pointed (like the skelies in this image). And any suggestions on how to make the eye sockets?

Sorry, I hope i'm not annoying you nor burdening you too much...

FrostCoveredFields In reply to K-EL-P [2011-09-23 23:30:33 +0000 UTC]

T'is no problem.

Halloween decorations are never made with quality, at least not frequently in stores. You'd have to find them from a specialty store, but even then it's not a frequent apperence.
I use a sewing machine and needle and thread. The bulk is done with the machine to save time (plus the stitching is straighter and stronger) but the trickier parts (such as the legs and arm or the details on the face) I would hand sew.

For the head.. It's up to you. Both would work equally as well, it's just a matter of fabric shape and stuffing. A pointed head would need more stuffing and shaping to get just so.

The eye sockets.. hm. I would suggest making the socket fabric MUCH larger then needed, then using white thread sew it up the seam of the crest of the skull. That way it's 'back lighting' the eye holes. The fabric should still be very lose in the head. From here the occasional stitch in the forehead to give it the cup form should be good. Once you stuff the head you'll need to shape the to push the stuffing out of the way. This is just a thought, but I think it would work nicely.

A tip for the steps would be to ALWAYS make the first plushie out of old pillowcase/sheets. It will be lumpy and wont always looks the best, but it will let you know any flaws in the pattern. Does the neck look oddly attached? Do you need to change the way the leg attaches to the hip? And other such things. :3 If you need any help I'm always willing to help.

Hey i've gotten some wonderful critiques from some people who have never drawn a stick figure nor held a paint brush. Sometimes it helps to get advice/critique from a fresh perspective.

And thank you!

rum-boy666 In reply to K-EL-P [2011-09-06 23:37:58 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha! Nah ... I know the value of a fresh perspective is amazing; idk.. I just always feel like a hypocrite giving critique when I myself can't draw but only write.

I dunno, the only thing I could say reaaaally looking at it is the fingers look a little unrealistic - but to be perfectly honest I wouldn't change it due to the fact it adds to the flow to the picture just like how the piano looks a little warped - it's all that flow.

I honestly really love this artwork though - seeing it really does make me feel, oddly alive.
It also reminds me of something I wrote AGES ago called The Skeletal Ball.

But as I said this is brilliant.

Thank you for uploading it xD
I would submit it for DD but I don't know how lol

Good eye, i agree that the fingers could be perfected more though i do like the thought of it complementing the flow. (do need to practice more with hands, they are difficult but fun to draw) But next time i will try to get down the flow and realism, thank you!

And i have no idea how to do the whole DD thing....but it is really sweet of you to think this work is worth it
