THIS SUMMER.... I - WILL- GO - TO - BULGARIA - AT - LAAAAAAAAAAST
Pizho/Pijo (Пижо - the white guy) and Penda (Пенда - the red girl), the two Bulgarian figures of Baba Marta's day, the 1st of March.
The first of march, it's Baba Marta's day (Grandma March day) in Bulgaria. Bulgarians offer to each other "martenitsi" usually in the form of a red and white wrist band and ending by pompoms or small woollen dolls of the same colours to celebrate the return of the spring.
Both colours can have various symbolic elements : health and strength of the blood, white of a long life, spring sun and wintry snow, love (or friendship) and purity (or righteousness, or respect), life and peace…

The only negative about the Baba Marta and martenici thing is that if you have a bunch of relatives/ close friends, you can end up with so much, that you cant wear them all :/
Some people even dont bother putting them on since it very combursam to carry them around until the time to remove them (which depending on what part of Bulgaria you are may take anywhere between half a month to 2 full ones ;-P )
