Ironic that both of them held traits the other wanted, Kabuto had no true past, and only a fabricated one. While Obito who was regarded as a hero during the previous war and truly a somebody, but in the end he lost Rin and thus decided to give up on everything. (Perhaps that's why he couldn't end himself, due to the curse Madara placed on him.) Not only that, but Kabuto was a true nobody, he had no past, no true name to go by and thus desired to be somebody because he felt that the past he had with Nono Yakushi was something he could live for, but in the end was blinded by fabricated personas during the previous war.

It is just now that it struck me the opposing differences between these two.

At least Kabuto somewhat deserves the sympathy. Forced as a kid to join ROOT and kill his mother. With Obito on the other hand, I feel as if he was never truly ready to be a shinobi considering what he did due to Rin's death.
