Description CHAPTER 2

Nioko quietly walked into the clearing of a park, and gasped in surprise and she stepped on some fabric. She slowly bent down, her katana ready in case of attack, and looked at the fabric. It was a young woman who was unconscious!

***

Katashi sandaled feet shuffled along the dusty road. Traveling at night was always the perfect time to be a wanderer. The tiny pinpricks of glittering stars winked teasingly at him as he made his way down the road. Ahead was Kyoto, a large city in Japan. He had been there several times, but never too long. That place was just too big for him.

***

Nioko bent down and gently nudged the still form of the woman, keeping one hand on the hilt of her sword. Slowly, seeing that she didn't move, Nioko checked for a pulse and found one.

***

A little bit ahead, Katashi heard the familiar sounds of a skirmish taking place. A single figure swung her sword powerfully, taking out policemen left and right. Within moments, all of them were dead, leaving the swordswoman to collapse at the base of a tree. Katashi stood there in awe, nearly forgetting that the fighter was wounded. She reminded him strongly of tales of the Hitokiri Battosai, or of the escaped rebel that had been nearly been burned to death. He shivered, and wondered what that woman had been doing, slaying policemen like she was. As he approached, another lady hurried to the fighter's side, inspecting her casualties. Katashi stepped forward, but remained in the shadows, watching with curiosity and suspicion.

***

Maemi woke up to find a young woman standing over her.
"What do you want?" she reprimanded coldly, she never did like people who found her when she was resting...or hurt. Then forgetting that the girl was still there she stood up and gingerly tapped her cut shoulder. Sighing, she help up her katana and, using the bottom folds of her kimono wiped her sword clean before putting it back in its sheath. Staring back at the girl her cold eyes narrowed, these were just the kind of people she hated...all nice and caring, they would never survive in the world. So turning away from the girl she muttered a quiet "I know you're there boy" before disappearing.

***

Katashi remained hidden in the shadows of the tree, although he knew that the fighter sensed his presence. People of that experience didn't have to see to know. He kept a small hand on his dagger, in case she went into a crazy rage and attacked him like she did to the policemen.

***

Nioko stared at the young injured woman.
"Don't I at least deserve some thanks?" she asked and stared at the woman. Then Nioko stood still as she heard a slight rustling somewhere near her. "Whoever you are, you can come out of spying!"

Scowling visibly, Katashi stepped out into the moonlight. Knowing he didn't look intimidating, he hardened his face even more and hooked his index finger onto the sheath of his dagger.
Smirking, he asked, "Who said I was spying?" He surveyed the mess of bodies and added in a low murmur, "What a killer."
