Basically, she grew up privileged in the U.S. and doesn't care all that much for her Mexican roots, despite speaking Spanish just fine. She has plenty of money, a comfortable home, and makes the decision to turn a blind eye to poverty, even the ones her parents when through when they lived in Mexico.
