This was done in a workshop long ago. I found my old artwork photos in a file on the computer. I have gotten beeter at art and at taking photos of my art - LOL.

It is a colored pencil drawing (Prismacolor colored pencils).  I used white and black plus a little dark green on green mat board.

The penguin is done on green/blue mat board and the highlights and shadows were added - this cuts down on the amount of work.

Aaahhh. So THAT's how the middle tone is so smooth. (I have trouble laying down smooth color with pencils )

I love artwork like this, where at first glance they look like a picture and it's only once you've taken a closer look that you see the strokes and lines from the materials....absolutely gorgeous!!
