Description *Full view please!*

Finished January 2010. This is my version of a female scout from Team Fortress 2. Hehe, not too shabby if you ask me! I'm starting to really like this character. Oh and if you're wondering, yes, that is Domo in the background lol. Random cameo is random!

While this is fine work, one little detail shows that she is worse at her job then the male counter part, The Scout says "Just caved in your skull, my bat's still dry, no clumps of hair, nothing" This Scout has a bloody bat...just me being critical.

I think this comic would be very helpful. No offense though, I thought you might need a few tips.

Oh I'm sorry — excuse my confusion, but I think you intended that to be constructive criticism. By which I mean, you failed. Hard.

You could have just said "I don't like this picture because it's too different from the source material." Or better yet — you could have looked it over, shrugged and moved on with your life. Instead, you chose to scrounge up a link to a comic that suggests that any gender-swapped OCs HAVE to look exactly like their male counterparts... and even worse, to suggest that real-world physics need to apply in TF2, where we regularly see a crazy German doctor render an 8 foot tall beefcake with a minigun COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE for periods of time.

Is there something wrong with your brain, or was it a conscious choice on your part to be so ignorant? Saying "No offense" and then linking to something patently wrong and offensive does not excuse you anymore than if you'd said "man your art sucks" followed by "LOL J/K."

I don't recall anything on Kaba's description saying that "this gender swapped femme Scout from TF2 was drawn for the enjoyment of GraphicsGail." Do you? No? Oh then MAYBE he drew it for himself, or anyone else who likes the subject matter... yeah, that must be it. GO FIGURE. If you don't like it, I invite you to Go Away, and perhaps also to Look At Something Else More To Your Liking.

Actually, I wasn't going to say anything more, but after reading the comic (yes, I did read it over) I have something I want to say.

I completely understand the perspective of wanting to keep characters as they are or more along the lines of what the original character represents, and I could argue this down to creative liberties and inspirational interpretations, but I can see where a fan of the original would defend against that and I can respect other people's opinions. I know that I sometimes prefer that certain fandoms I enjoy, as well, not be touched or heavily altered from its source, to which, I'm sorry if this piece offended you, but I don't go around leaving links to potentially insulting articles of criticism explaining what I made was wrong on so many levels to you and that author while simply saying "No offense". Now, I do appreciate some part of the argument though made in it, and I'll keep that in mind, I would have appreciated it more that your response had been more constructed and not so troll like in nature. Regardless, any more rule 63s I produce, I'll take those points made into consideration.

One last thing I'll say about that comic though that I found highly offensive... The assumption that art like this, is being produced by lonely and horny 40 year old men that have no woman or a life... I actually know, have met, and have worked with many different artists over the last 15 years that have drawn similar material and lead very fulfilling lives with good careers, wives/fiances/girlfriends, and children of their own. I, myself personally am an accomplished IT and network technician of 8 years and am currently working for a well established cable provider company here in Missouri supporting our internet and telephone customers. I also have a family of my own that I take care of, including a 6 month old son I watch over every day. I draw what I draw, because I enjoy what I do, much like what you draw for yourself or others.

Assuming you used this link to fully represent your opinion of myself and my art, let me say this... You can insult me all that you like. You can hate every piece of art I draw. To say I'm a lonely old creepy man that draws material just to fap to it insults not just me, but a lot of great people, including my family, and that I will not stand for! So yes, I do take offense to your response, especially considering you did not know me and you assumed such based purely on a picture that you did not like.

My point was: She's not functional for battle. If she's just for show or a model I don't mind or care.

Kabalyero In reply to GraphicsGail [2013-08-01 01:34:54 +0000 UTC]

Then why did you not just ask that or simply state that and your reasoning for it from the start? Was it just humorous irony that compelled you to share that heavily biased and opinionated article with multiple underlying insults and personal character damning assumptions of the artist?

If you were trying to imply constructive criticism, you may want to consider changing your approach next time and not just rely on someone else's personal vendetta rant as grounds for structural suggestions.

Furthermore, you assumed this picture was to be an exact representation of the Scout, but in all honesty it was made to be cute and funny, period. If I had intended it to be more realistic and action based, I would have implied such. Also, why must "functionality" have to be realistic to TF2? Because some one person's popular opinion stated such? BAH! Art is art, and people can interpret any character or piece that they draw as they see fit. Do people have to like it, nope! But to say a character had to follow a certain set of rules established by just one person is pretty naive. I mean, hell, TF2 is far, FAR, from realistic as is.

To better thy argument, let me ask you this... Does anyone question the likes of Wonder Woman on her ability to lift heavy objects or to maneuver in what she wears? Nope! Why? Because it is assumed such and has been since her initial design. Better example: A-Ko from Project A-Ko. The only thing are wears that implies her strength is her wrist bands. Otherwise, she has the body frame of a twig and wears a high school uniform, but still throws tanks and missiles with ease. Why does noone question her character either? Neither are being realistically functional right? Wrong, for the story and backdrop each have been set in, it is normal from them to do such things because that's the world made for them. This Scout could be part of a totally different universe from the original story, you don't even know that unless you ask instead of assume.

Regardless, she was made with the intension of being just funny and cute, period, nothing more. So again I say, next time you wanna state some criticism, I suggest you do it the right way, constructively.

Yeah, I don't even know where to start with everyone, I mean, do they know who they are looking at here??? I don't think they have any idea, ANY IDEA, at all who she is. Basically, she's kind of a big deal. *watches her flex* Ah man, that's beautiful, heh... *coughs* you all listening? okay... Grass grows, birds fly, the sun shines, and guys, she HURTS people! *boink!* She's a force of nature! *bonk!* If you were from, where she is from, you'd be f@#$ing dead! *clang!* WOOOOOOOO!!!
