Japanese ningyo are nothing like Western mermaids.
They are predators, and their beautiful faces are the same trick as the glowing light of a anglerfish - meant only to lure their prey near them; once they achieve this goal, they impale their victims with long, sharp talons, and pull them into the water to feast on their flesh.
None of this 'uwu pretty boi, I am gonna save you' nonsense.
