Description Sitka again, on top of our rockery wall infront of our fence. She's so hard to get pictures of most of the time because she moves around alot, silly young husky.

I know, I own 2 others.
This girl did not get along with my other female though. I felt it was best to give her to someone else, whom are a couple that use them for dog sledding. So it worked out in the end.

The research i did when i got mine, said that Female husky's tend to not get along with other females. Unless they grow up together from puppyhood, then its a good change that they will get along.... At least she now has a way to get all her puppy energy out

Not always true. My female gets along with my female GSD very very well. Trust me, I did a lot of research too. I had my current huskies for a while before I adopted Sitka here. I'm very versed in husky behavior.

She wouldn't be a puppy at all anymore though, lol. This pic is a good few years old. I'm sure she's doing well though.

True.... My family use to do the Iditarod, and raise husky's.... my uncle's had trouble keeping more than one female husky at a time.... I was sooo happy when i got mine, she's a rescue.

Just depends on the individual dog. All female dogs are sort of prone to the female aggression, some aren't! Stuff happens I guess.

And thats nice to hear you rescued, I'm sure she's a lovely husky!

So pretty! I plan on getting a husky. Are there any tips or advice about getting one?

There is A LOT of advice I could give you. And I appreciate the fact that your asking, most people don't.

First bit of advice, try and get one from a husky rescue/shelter. It's best you try and stay away from the breeders, because not only is it expensive, but you have no idea what you could be getting, unless you find a reputable breeder.

Second bit of advice, the husky breed is not for everyone, and certainly isn't for most people. You need the patience, and should be willing to spend a lot of time and work on your husky if it needs training. The husky can be a VERY difficult breed to train, they can be rather independent and headstrong. You need to show them that YOU are alpha and that you deserve the utmost respect from them, otherwise they won't care too much about you in that respect.

Third bit of advice, the husky is known for being an escape artist, if you are keeping your husky outdoors, you need to husky proof your yard, or make a dog run/kennel for them to stay in when unsupervised, that is what I did...and it's totally husky proof. If your dog is indoors, be careful...this breed isn't really known for being an indoor dog or a close companion dog, they are a working breed. They would terrorize your house, and chew up everything...if supervised, try and give them something safe to chew on, like a rawhide chew. Obviously, work on house training...no doing their business indoors.

Fourth bit of advice, your need to exercise them rather frequently. Because they are a working breed, they have a lot of energy and can get bored easily. So try to keep them entertained and wear them out by jogging/running or walking them, even taking them to a park or a dog park to run them is a good idea, I do that on occasion.

Fifth bit of advice, crate training them is a GOOD idea. Not only does it help teach them not to go potty in the house, but also it helps them learn that the crate is like a den/home that they can be safe and comfortable in. It's a good idea if you are ever out of the house, it's not a good idea to leave your dog unsupervised and walking around the house, free to chew or ruin anything in site.

Aaannd, that's about it. Try and also search google for information.
Hope that helps.

Thank you, I was choosing between a beagle and a husky cause my mom wants a beagle and I wouldn't mind either, but I don't know if a husky would be happy in my house, and I don't want to bring it around if it won't be happy. But thank you for your advice!

When people ask, I often try to talk them out of it. A lot of people really can't handle the breed, and most end up in shelters/rescues because of them. I end up telling most everyone "Please don't get one..."

And your welcome.
