Description
NASAMS 4NG is medium-range air defence system. After successful development of Eibe-M, High Command requested similar systems for point defence to complement MANTIS 2 VSHORAD systems. In late 2026 Southern Germany went into cooperation with Norway, to upgrade NASAMS systems to use R-69-SL missiles. This missiles use reverse engineered guidance section from AIM-120D and overally resembles R-77-ZRK missile. With this upgrade, NASAMS had missile with range of 60km that is cheaper then AIM-120 and more minor upgrades like additional IR system on top of every launcher. After this, Kongsberg decided to give this upgraded system designation NASAMS 4NG. This upgrade was made in mind with upgrading all existing NASAMS systems. Along with minor changes went reorganization of NASAMS units.
Now NASAMS 4NG battery consists of*:
- 6 NASAMS 4NG launchers carried by 6 UGI ALHS trucks;
- 1 KoFz E-71 battery command vehicle;
- 1 FRSFz KY-71 search radar vehicle (or ELM-2106NG);
- 1 MB Wolf E/O-Sys electro-optical sensor vehicle;
- 6 FlaMuFz MU-27N ammunition carrying trucks based on UGI 6x6 trucks. Each carry 6 missiles.
NASAMS 5NG battalion CP consists of*:
- 1 FlaKoSt NASAMS carried by 1 UGI ALHS truck;
- Additional search radar systems can be linked to extend detection zone.
