This is my friend's baby. I'm was working on as a surprise.As you can see, I totally redid his hair. I brought in lots of shadows and pulled out areas for highlights on strands of hair.
The blanket turned out better than I expected. I was thinking to myself, how do I make this look like it's in the foreground and blurred like the camera shot? I decided to fill in the piece of blanket that was at the bottom of the shot under his arm because it was too distracting.
I also left the rough edges as a 'frame'. I assure you the edges are straight. When using a digital camera, the edges of a photo can be 'bloated' when you shoot close.
I think this is the best I've done on a drawing so far. She cried...yah!
I used Stonehenge paper and black Prismacolor pencil.
Final size is 5 x 7.

This is a wonderful portrait and the details in his tiny little hand are so nice. I think that the hair looks great. I also like the rough edges as the frame it helps to soften the piece more. Very nice work.

thank you! I was really worried when I worked on the hands and the hair, but I think they are the best parts, along with his eyebrows.

yes it is. My niece was born in november and for my brothers christmas present I tried to draw her with my brother. Drawing my brother was fine but drawing a baby is a different experience because there skull isn't fully formed there proportions seem off and there face is so odd. Don't give me wrong Ilove babies but it's like a different way of thinking when you draw them.

i like this this the skins is really nice, on the forhead aswel, you no those tiny little hairs you get , you can notice it on babys,looks like you'v put that in. looks really good
