Description Disney-Club Contest 19-the Artists

Who is your chosen artist? Mary Robinson Blair
When was she born? 10/21/11-7/26/78
And when did she work for Disney? 1940-78? Disney Legend 1991
What did she do? designed "It's a Small World", the Disney Contempary Resort mural, and many features like Saludos Amigos/Cinderella/Alice in wonderland/Peter Pan...and many murals.......
What do you find inspiring about this artist? her bold color design
What can every aspiring artist learn from this remarkable person? Her style of art didnt come about until the South American trip in 1941, of which she had to plea to Walt to let her join. During that trip she began to use color differently than the others and Walt took notice to the change of style. After the trip Blair had become Walt's favorite artist. It was because of her Walt chose the perfect dress for Cinderella, and also it was because of her style that Walt finally realized (after several years) that the story of Alice in Wonderland was do-able..........for the 1964 World's Fair, Walt asked Mary Blair to design "It's a Small World" for the Unicef Pav....and she also dreamt of the idea of a 90ft mural, which became the Contemporary mural, where the Five-legged Goat is made famous "because no one is perfect" she would say.

so they werent too many pics to use as a ref of mary blair, so i had to re-watch Walt and El Grupo, where i found a caricature of Blair. if anything she is a child at heart, thats why i decided to use it instead of a real pic.....of course Small Wrld as the background, that what made her famous, but i chose to use the new "The Magic, the Memories, and You" show's color scheme that they project onto Small Wrld.......She is responsible for Alice, so naturally she is gonna be lookin over Mary's shoulder, where she is doodling her South American parrots, where her new technique was formed.....peter pan is playin on her other shoulder because she was a kid at heart just like Walt was....i put the Five-legged Goat on there as a pin, because i have the same pin, and she created the goat (mistake or not?) to show no one is perfect.......and lastly, many people may or may not know, but Blair would always color coordinate clothes, and she made her own clothes. One day she could wear all green, and she would wear color contacts to match, if possible....so since the background color is mainly blue, i made her wear orange......the lines arent my normal uniform lines, they are rather like sidewalk chalk, just for fun

Darn!! I was going to do her. LOL....on to plan B since I don't want to be a copier. You did a great job though! I know how hard it is to find pictures of her! I've only found...one I think, other than in Walt and El Grupo.

Thats for sure! I even just was at Disneyland and went through the Mary Blair exhibit they have there right now about 5-6 times. It sure helped with learning more about her style....but there was only one picture of her! It was of her working on the it's a small world model. I can't wait to see all of the other entries too! I suppose I should start doing mine...LOL.

I know for sure who I'm going to do now. I decided against Donald and Nash, and Luddy, and decided to do someone totally different...Mark Henn!! How come I didn't think of him before!?!

Haha, that's funny!

Her work IS amazing. I think she's probably at the top of my favorite artist list right now...although she's always been pretty high up there.

As for who I'm going to pick, it's a bit of a huge toss up now. Mary Blair was my number one, because of a project I'm very slowly working on, but now I'm decided between my tied for number two. It's between Clarence Nash (Donald Duck) and Barbara Luddy (Lady & Kanga + Others). I'm leaning toward Nash/Donald though. I've got a great scene idea for them, so yeah. I'll be sure to show you the finished product though. LOL.
