For me it reminds me of old anatomy pictures of Giant Robo aka Johnny Sokko kaiju (which I thought was really cool!)

did it a team fortress type way " let's fight man vs metal man!" for man vs machine, so it was on purpose man vs metal man. also didn't know what to rightly call godzilla since monster kind of lost the ring (monster versus metal monster isn't quit as catchy)
