Description Ha, the muse is back! Just recently discovered Cable & Deadpool and it is the greatest Marvel comic series I've ever read (actually, it is also the only Marvel series I've ever read). Yay!

I just wanted to draw the 2 together but then I discovered a copy of Comic Life on my computer and had to try it out. So very sorry about the lame attempt at dialogue here :\

pg2 is here

Cable and Deadpool is, in fact, one of my favorite comics from Marvel(Aside from Age of Apocalypse). Totally worth checking out, considering they have the issues collected into nifty books for about 20 bucks each. While Fabian's run with Deadpool wasn't my favorite (but the man is a good writer nonetheless), I don't find Cable boring at all, well, when he's around Deadpool. I do like Cable's Earth-295 counterpart better (and yes, I just realized how absolutely GEEKY I sound), Nate Grey (aka X-man) who's really just a less mature longer-haired Cable in his younger days.

But I digress. I like how you draw Cable.

Thanks

I'm curious, whose Deadpool do you like best?

I've read some of Deadpool's early stuff from the 90s but found him too grim and tortured in those. The new Deadpool is....*yuck*

I like Fabian's Deadpool best because he's got the comedy, insane thing going on at the surface, but subtly right underneath is a hint that Wade might be saner and more tortured than we think. Plus, his Deadpool is hilarious not 'overly-masculine' as most Marvel male characters tend to be.

I've never read much of Cable's stuff because I can't handle too many self-sacrificing, saving the world from destruction act. Then all the coming back to life schtink....*sigh*

While I totally respect and revere Fabian, without whom Deadpool would not exist, I have to say that I liked the Deadpool before C/D came around. I liked the pre-Cable Deadpool more, where he was still silly but far more insane, and none of this "oh, I can't kill anyone because Cable screwed with my head" stuff. Plus, I miss Blind Al, who didn't much have to do with Cable/Deadpool. She's one of my favorite characters (a little above Weasel on my list) so I was disappointed that she didn't appear much at all. I honestly can't say who's my favorite, considering it's a close race between Joe Kelly and Jim Calafiore. Haven't gotten around to checking out the new Deadpool yet, but I suppose it's difficult to write someone else's character, since I suspect that Fabian is practically Deadpool himself. I do love how Fabian writes Deadpool's personality, but I don't like that he watered him down a little. Then again, it's to be expected when Marvel keeps going on pre-teen-friendly kicks.

I like Cable's personality in a way, but the Messiah Complex gets old after a while. Then again, without this whole "I can save the world" deal, he wouldn't be Cable. He's always at his best when he's talking to Deadpool, though, in my opinion.

And come on, when have you ever seen Marvel kill a main character and KEEP HIM dead? XD

I see. Hee, I was actually glad (after reading the earlier issues after C&D) that Blind Al wasn't featured much. While her sheer force of personality is awesome, it's kind of questionable on why Wade kept her a perpetual hostage. I think that if I had read early Wade before C&D, I might also consider Fabian's Wade too family friendly as well. As it stands however, first love is always first love

Yep, I like Cable when he's with Wade too, and when he's being a manipulative bastard. I mean, it's fine and all to have a character that's always saving the world and fighting bad guys, but eventually it gets a bit too self righteous... The fact that Nate 'likes' Wade and gets along with him makes him less like a overly dramatic do-gooder with no personality.

I've heard the jokes, but honestly, I have a hard time getting into Marvel stuff. The sheer number of characters and relationship entanglement is too much like a soap opera for me.

Wade eventually lets her go, but she decides to stick around because she's grown fond of him. Or maybe she's just trying to keep him from killing as many people as possible, who can say.

Odd how most world-altering characters have to be manipulative bastards (Prof. Xavier being one of the more prominent ones), but yeah, it adds a little something to his personality and makes him a lot cooler.

And I understand what you mean about the soap opera feeling. -.- I am sick, sick, SICK of Scott Summers and Jean Grey. All right, they're in love, we get it, stop beating us to death with their relationship, please. And Rogue and Gambit, and Rogue and Magneto, Rogue and Colossus is just ridiculous. The problem with Marvel is that the pairings will change depending on who's the writer at the time (except for Scott and Jean, since that one's been engraved in stone, it seems). So pairings will always change, and drama ensues, and we're all just sitting here waiting for the drama to end and the awesome fights to start again.

Still...Marvel over DC any day.

Oh, I didn't know that. Guess she did develop a soft spot for him after all...awwwww ><

I never understood why the US comic industry must have these two (Marvel, DC) sprawling universe. If writers are allowed to create their own characters/plot, then they would not need to retcon or retread various relationships every time the writer changes.

Pretty rad that you like both Cable and Deadpool. A lot of people think of them as 90's has-been rejects. But I think they are damn sexy and are here to stay!
I haven't read comics in forever, and never figured out what happened to Deadpool's body, even his Marvel profile isn't very in-depth informative in that aspect...
What's the extent of the "scarring" or whatev?

The only Marvel stuff that I've ever read from beginning to end is Cable&Deadpool;it's awesome, and funny, and the art is really good! I'm trying to read the new Deadpool comic but it's....kinda bad.

As for Deadpool's skin, he got cancer, was experimented upon, ????, massive scarring or something. I never got a good grip on the extent of Deadpool's deformity because each artist draws him differently. I like the idea that it's just really bad scarring because that's easier to draw and Wade can still look good. But based on how other people perceive him most of the time, I'm thinking that its probably quiet a bit worse than just scarring.

Thanks for the info!
I'll have to find a collected version of Cable/Deadpool, as I trust your judgement for good comics..
He looks so sleek and sinewy when he's all geared up! Makes it hard to believe that it's anything more than superficial scarring. Or perhaps he wears a Batman Movie-esque molded rubber costume to hide the deformity?
I have the Deadpool miniserieses because of the art in them, back when everyone thought that Joe Mad was the best thing since sliced bread, and Ive always been an Ian Churchill fan because he isn't scared to draw guys in spandex with man-parts and not equipped like Ken or G.I. Joe. (decked out with equipment, but no gun >.<
Been readin Cable on and off over the years, the early issues suffered from lack of cohesion and completely going nowhere story...
Anyway yeah, I'll read it, thanks!

Thanks though the dialog really isn't very funny compared to the source material.

I've always thought that the Marvel stuff was too hyper-masculine, but Cable & Deadpool series is really funny and has a lot of good art, especially the later issues. You can check out the shipper guide here . It's also pretty easy to find all the comic issues scanned online.

Cable is BORING, and Deadpool was funny but they watered him down too much. I'm glad they're giving him his claws back in his new series.

Well to be fair, Cable is a very straight-laced character; plus he's suppose to be mysterious so it's kind of hard to write him as anything but 'boring' to the reader. Personally, I love it when he's revealed to be a manipulative bastard and snarking at Deadpool.

I like Fabian's Deadpool best because I'm a yaoi fangirl and I'd like to think that there's some chance of happiness between Cable/Deadpool. I don't want Deadpool to be some unredeemable nutter (which he's not

Saqism In reply to kaijusizefeels [2008-12-15 22:34:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah, you're one of THOSE. For your information, once you do understand the mystery behind Cable, he's still boring- it isn't worth it. Deadpool is not unredeemable, but he is a nutter. After Fabian's run, which was well written but nearly destroyed the character nontheless, he saved the world and on top of that put the smackdown on Wolverine. You'll also be sad to know that most evidence, even when you add in Fabian's run, points to Deadpool being straight.

Don't get me wrong- I wouldn't care either way. Just not with Cable, you understand.

LOL Last time I checked, yaoi fangirling is still a niche subculture so I'm pretty sure it doesn't warrant the use of CAPITAL LETTERS.
