With the awareness of his body fading away Saud felt the familiar aches and pains ease away. The phantom twinges of his lost ear, the straining of his crippled leg, the tightness of the scars about his face and body; all were gone. It felt as though a breeze tousled his fur, a rich coat of a thickness he hadn't felt since he'd been young. So this was what death felt like? The relief was palatable, but still something deep within the male ached as it had for the last few years of his life.

"Saud...?"

Suddenly she was there, standing before him; as beautiful as the day he'd lost her, as young as the day they'd first met. Only then did the last ache of his pains finally drift away, the ties holding them to Saud's heart cut loose by the feel of her fur against his. Only then could the last of his tension drain away with a smile that hurt as much as it healed.

"Mara."
