Personality:
    + Confident
Raised as the only child of a lioness obsessed with a religion in which her kind is God's Ultimate Favorite left Metis with a heavy mantle on her shoulders. She deals with this by believing she's a walking miracle child with all her naive little heart.
    + Imaginative
With no one but herself to play with Metis became a rather imaginative child. Was that the whisper of her ancestors on the breeze or just the wind? Only Metis knows!
    + Thoughtful
Metis is surprisingly perceptive of others' feelings, perhaps because she is obsessed with the idea of being liked after a lifetime of relative solitude. Or perhaps she really is just tuned in to empathy.
    - Fidgety
At best Metis is socially awkward. At worst she is an anxious wreck, with no clue how to connect with the living.
    - Brash
Impulsive to a fault, Metis is just as likely to endanger herself as well as others with sudden flights of fun-seeking.
    - Fanatical
Due mostly to her upbringing Metis sees the world through the lens of religion. Everything loops back to Helios and the gods' effect on the world.
History:
There was once a time that a mighty pride dominated the Sivatagi Desert, populated purely by a breed of lion that called themselves tsavo. They worshipped the sun god Helios as the absolute power of the world and held the belief that they were his chosen breed. Their Kings were said to be descended from the god himself donning a mortal form in order to take a lioness bride! God-blood or no the desert pride faced near decimation after the great volcanic eruption. Many members fled and interbred with other prides, taking their bloodlines and spreading them throughout the lands once again.

The King and a few of those most loyal to their beliefs remained in the tunnels under the desert, tending to the skulls of the ancestors and working to preserve as much of their culture as possible. Through the generations the remnants of the pride fell in greater numbers, until at last only a single lioness remained. For years she tended Helios' Garden with utter devotion, praying for the god to at least grant her a male of tsavo descent so that his bloodline would not die with her.

It was the only prayer she'd ever have answered.

Approaching from the banks of the river she spotted a traveler that ticked ever box the aging lioness had. Slim, scruffy, and well into his adulthood with scarcely a mane to speak of. He HAD to be the one she'd asked for! What followed was hardly a whirlwind romance: she was a lioness wanting a cub, he was a friendly enough rouge willing to oblige. Their friendship was casual enough for the male to hang around well after their copulation produced a single cub, assisting his companion with hunting until the child was weaned.

Thus Metis, last of Helios' bloodline, came into being.

Her mother was strict in drilling the ways of survival into Metis' head. The desert was a harsh home, but it was their birthright. To even breathe a thought about leaving the sands was to blaspheme Helios himself. Avoidance of that line of thinking -- to obey the call of the sunset and follow its path to the sea her father had once spoke of -- wasn't beaten out of the girl QUITE in a literal sense, but the lengths her mother went to ensure Metis spent her life in the desert came close.

Metis grew into her mother's expectations like a good child, reciting and pledging herself to the beliefs of their ancestors with little complaint. It was what she'd been born to do, after all. Mixing a glowing paste from the bodies of worms and mushrooms in order to freshen the paintings on her ancestors' skulls within the Skullkeep so that their souls would never fall to the eternal agony of becoming one with the desert sandstorms.

Preparing and placing her mother's skull among them when her time came.

Now Metis wanders the sands when not consumed by her underground duties, tasting the first breaths of life as a lone adult... And finding the scent of other lions on the breeze instead.

Other:
- Metis' most recent ancestors in SP canon (pre-wipe essentially) are Amarachi, Vita, and Erebus.
