Fun fact: there are a few lasgun patterns that are exactly like this image.
Although, if you could just stick another lasgun to a lasgun (like some patterns do), why not just add a second focusing crystal designed to further compress the photon beam?Β Since the potency of a laser is simply photons per second hitting a target (basically a laser s a photon water saw).Β Normally this would be heresy, but the Mechanicus understands laser tech enough that it readily modifies and invents laser weapons.Β Like the lasgun, actually.Β And the lascannon.

That's awesome/hilarious, but also raises a question, out of the entire Imperium's history, has no one really bothered to add just one simple upgrade for the lasgun like a grenade launcher? It just nags at me from time to time. Ok sure ammo would be a pain for 40mm but still you can't possibly have thousands of armies with the essentially same weapon type and have nothing to add aside from a knife at the end.

Good question. I also asked myself why astartes don't use camouflage and artillery, among many other things.
As I said during one forum discussion: 'Logic and common sense are not applicable when we speak about Warhammer. In Warhammer everything serves the only one purpose - to make things look grimdak and epic. That's why we have 42'nd millenium super soldiers with swords and infantry with gear too shitty even by WWII standards'.

Β They do have them, its just not at all practical to give them to most guardsmen since their job description is one word, or three depending on how you phrase it. Β Elites do and dark heresy does have the rules for them, they are just rare especially since the Imperium is basically dark ages in space. Β That and what the dude before me said. Β kool dude.
