The god Set, also known as Seth, Sethen, Sutekh or Setesh, was the ancient Egyptian god of the desert, storms, chaos, darkness, foriegners, wind, and, sterility, as well as the Lord of Lower Egypt before the unification. Third child, and second son, of Geb (god of earth) and Nut (goddess of the heavens), slayer of Apep (Demon of destructive chaos) and warrior on the solar bark of Ra. He is the husband of his younger sister Nephthys, but she cheated on him with their older brother Osiris and gave birth to Anubis. He also has several other wives, concubines, and mistresses including: Neith (goddess of weaving), Taweret (goddess of pregnancies), and two canite goddesses Anat and Astarte. He's also considered to be bisexual. He is also sometimes considered to be the father of Sobek (god of the nile), Upuat (Wepwawet: God of openning ways), and Hetepsabet (Ask Wikipedia).

Aside from being the killer of Apep, he's best known for hacking his brother Osiris (god of death) to pieces and trying to take Isis and the throne. Then his sister Isis (Healing), made naughty with Osiris's corpse and created Set's great enemy Horus. After 80 years of war and the removal of an eye (Horus's), and a severe groin/private part injury (Set's), Horus took the throne signifying the unification of Egypt, and Set got to have two goddesses. I think someone got gypped.

As for what his head is, it's an unknown species called the typhonic beast, after the greek Titan Typhon who was later associated with Set . Some ideas are: dog, donkey, camel, giraffe, fish (the ears are fins), a dragon, an Egyptian aardvark, gazelle, jackal, or something else all together.
