The most interesting thing about 'oblins in hyrule has always been that they don't seem to have any purpose outside of ganon- rather than monsters recruited it's like he made 'em out of thin air. or thick air, given how they seem to be easily tricked in most every incarnation.
now that i think about it, that's kinda borne out by how much the seem to degrade the weaker ganon is overall- when ganon is entirely self-aware they tend to fall into the blue bulldog monster, but the less all there in the head he gets, the more goofy looking they become. makes me wonder if there any way to pick where in the zelda timeline ganon is from the state of them.

very interesting thinking! skyward sword was the first time we really saw them just being flat-out summoned, but it makes sense, and they've always had this sort of resemblance to the ganon form itself so they have to be connected in one way or another.
