Description

Galaxy of ERA
Zion

“As I look upon my domain of stars, I find myself humbled. My little corner of Zion is part of a construct, far grander in scope; a testament to forces incomprehensible: But even this masterpiece of creation pales in comparisons to that of the ethereal void; the universe: Compared to that, my little domain of stars… is nothing but a footnote. And I less so then that… A Fascinating truth, don’t you think?”

(Tsar Alexander II of Kotora, muses about the galaxy & universe)

The Galaxy of Zion is as vast & beautiful as it is dangerous. It is home to many secrets both wonders & terrifying, many civilizations are born, grow & die in this grand expanse. At almost 562,150 light years in diameter & at its central bulge is about 56,000 light-years across.

There are an estimated one-trillion stars in the galaxy & out of them almost 59% have planets, & almost 34% of planets are habitual & out of them, 15% have intelligent life (Note in the hundred millenniums since the first races took to the stars these statistics have changed drastically).

“History”

Sometime between Circa…/time date unknown/ & 500,000 B.R.E, The Elder race known as the Mythics, lay the foundation of Zion. An undertaking of such scope it defies comprehension.

After an unknown amount of time, the first part of their great work was completed. An entire galaxy & numerous Dwarf galaxy (Hyperion & Signs Ocularist to name a few) & satellite anomaly (Grand shroud of Ultramar to name one).

By Circa 500,000 B.R.E the Mythics began the second part of their grand project, an Era of Seeding. Over the next 390,000 years, the Mythics implanted hundreds of thousands of planets across the with and breath of their creation with the seeds of sentient life, molding on their own baseline genetic code.

With this most important task complete, sometime around circa 110,000 B.R.E the Mythics Departed, leaving only the Mythic stones on the worlds they seeded one final Message to their creations.

In the Time since then & current Era (3000 P.R.E) The galaxy has seen the Rise & fall of countless civilizations, Apocalyptic wars & a second seeding. Across over a trillion stars the voices of many have carried & fallen silent in the eternal night.

Each Era has brought with it numerous trials, hardships, joys & sorrows. But through it, all Zion endures changing yet unchanging, caring & uncaring & eternal but aging.

It truly is as the Mythics predicted;

“For in infant possibility’s shell comes infant outcomes”:

Size & layout

Zion is spiral galaxy approximately “526,150 light-years in diameter” (172,438.65 parsecs or 160.29 kiloparsecs). With an abundance of bright stars & worlds rich in mineral wealth & able support & sustain life.

The Galaxy is a patchwork of densely organized star clusters, each containing tens of thousands of parsecs & hundreds of millions of square light-years. Each cluster holds tens of billions if not hundreds of billions of stars & millions of worlds, the largest of these clusters is the “Reach” As seen in the star map below.

The vast space outside these clusters referred to as the “Expanse”, & though abundant in solar masses it lacks the general habitability of the clusters. The Expanse is not completely without life, with hundreds if not thousands of sub-star clusters scattered throughout the four main expenses.

Most of the major galactic civilization have originated from the four clusters, but there have been exceptions to this rule the “Jenn’ti” of the “Tidmane’s expanse”. There are four clusters as seen in the map above these are.

Core cluster.
Reach cluster.
Pasileuse arm cluster.
Mid-rim cluster.
As well as four main expenses.teti expanse.
minor expanse.
Ataru expanse.
Titmene’s expanse.

Dead space

Another galactic anomaly not shown on the map above is a regen of space some twenty-five thousand light-years in diameter, a regen of space known only as “Dead space” it is a regen of space through with unstable gravity wells, strange happenings & other forms of unexplained events & worse.

There are no known civilizations that exist within it & any worlds within its borders are little more than graveyards & any ship the so much as strays to close to this regen of space are seemingly snatched up by it.

What is more disturbing is the border of Dead space are steadily expanding & any inhabited worlds in its path soon suffer the same fate as the one within it.

In 2456 B.R.E, Dren lords Arr’kaa Rakk’nuss & Ko’tuss Raggmorr, sent an expeditionary fleet of nearly two hundred & fifty thousand ships including; five hundred Ji’gumo capital ships: & two hive class ships.

The fleet entered Dead space in circa 23/ 8/ 2456 B.R.E & simply disappeared. Two scout flotillas were sent in to search for the missing expedition only to meet with the same fate, after the loss of the second all hope was abandoned.

Five years later one lone ship emerged from Dead space, despite its horribly scared & warped exterior it was identified as being part of the expedition. The ship a cruiser class, one that held thousands of souls was all but disserted, its interior was twisted beyond recognition.

The wall & panel smeared with blood & feces as well as a strange moss & fungal growth. In one of the crew quarters sitting in ankle deep water four of the ships original crew was discovered, as well as the half-eaten bodies of the of three others.

The four Dren were in a shamble, stripped of their Bio-suit’s their bodies uncovered. Were the boarding party not told to retrieve any survivors alive they would have killed them for such an offense. After struggle & the death of one of the boarding party, the survivors were taken into custardy & the hulk toed to an outpost.

After seeing the Ship & its crew one question burned in the minds of outpost commander What happened?” The survivors useless little more the jibbering shells of their former selves dying soon after their arrival at the outpost. What was more disturbing was according to the ships timekeeper, The ship had only left three weeks ago…

This was dismissed as a malfunction. Soon after the outpost went dark, an investigation soon discovered that whatever had befallen the expeditionary fleet has somehow affected the outpost, & was then promptly destroyed.

Since then Dead space was declared off-limits to all Dren, & monitoring beacons were placed to observe its expansion, over the next few century’s reports of a fleet, comprising of ship similar in design to the lost expeditionary fleet have been sited within the quarantine zone, as well as a distress transmission calling for assistance due to an unknown force attacking them, there have also been stranger transmissions from the fleet, as well as other strange sightings & happening…

This is quite possibly the BEST lore to a universe I've ever seen, good job my dude: Everything from the creation story, the universes layout, the races, and OF COURSE that mysterious darkspace mention!

Cool setting. I like that there's a reason for various alien species to be humanoid, thanks to the Mythics. It always strains my credulity when I'm expected to believe that random evolution across widespread planets produced bipedal beings with the exact same facial arrangement, minus a ridged forehead or strangely colored eyes. And interesting mystery about Dead Space.

Welcome.
Yeah, I've even done an amount of fan art of his work. The guy has even seen it in his forum and he approves of it.
I consider his Pip & Flinx work on the world / universe building, timeline ect., inspiration to what I do with my IG work.

For what is his best book I don't know. ... I haven't visited this place in some time, but I could try asking him that question in his forum?

Actually that Messier 31 (M 31).  M33 is nearby in the sky.  It is called the Andromeda Galaxy, for the constellattion it is in.  It is the nearest spiral galaxy to our own, and it is normally the farthest object that is visible to the human eye. (In a really dark sky site such as Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada) The smaller spiral M33 is visible. M31 is 2.3 million light years (ly) from us and M33 is 2.6 million ly away. M31 has two satellite galaxies M32 (blob above the central bulge) and M110 (blob below the galaxy).  You can check out:
